The perfect job?

Just wondered what kind of jobs you all do and whether or not you enjoy working life? Stupid question, I know!

I studied Chemistry and have been working in lab\' jobs for three years now.

My first job was the only lab\' role available in the city I was in and was minimum wage. The hours were flexible and there were some good people there. However, there were also some pretty nasty people there plus the workload was horrific. I learned a lot but left after 21 months due to crap pay, poor management and announcements of redundancy / relocation to a nowhere town.

I then moved to another city for a lab\' role with better salary and better prospects. This was good as I was elaborating on techniques I\'d covered in my previous role (for better pay), but bad as I started on a temporary agency contract. After I\'d been there for 9 months myself and the other temp\'s were made redundant due to poor company turnover.

Luckily, I was offered a transfer to another lab\' owned by the same company (for slightly better pay again and a permanent contract). Here, I\'m doing something completely different to anything I\'ve done before.

I\'ve been here for 5 months now and know this job isn\'t me at all. I\'m struggling to settle in as in the small staff force people are pretty outspoken and \'blokey\', whereas I am ... well, not! The work itself isn\'t out of my range but there are a lot of factors in the working conditions which make it hard.

I know this is the real world, beggars can\'t be choosers etc etc, but at what point do you draw the line and move on? Everytime I watch the news or read a paper there are constant warnings and reports of people stuck in the trap of unemployment.

It\'s time to leave for home now anyway (hurrah) but I\'d love to hear what attitude others take to their working lives.

Well there\'s nothing saying that you can not keep looking for a new postion.

I know what your talking about, I\'m working in shipping at a cabinet making place. A good job, some good and some bad, not so bad pay... but it\'s a job.

I\'m rather stuck at the moment as I\'m looking for countryside ranger work and there is little to no countryside around Coventry. I don\'t mind moving somewhere else to get a job but on the other hand I don\'t want to lose the house we\'re in at the moment and uproot my daughter from school on the off chance that I can get a job in the place we move to. Ideally I\'d get a short term job to get a bit of public sector experience before looking for a better and more permanent position but I can\'t risk moving halfway across the country for a temporary position on minimum wages that may or may not lead to a permanent one.

I\'m a project manager for an insurance company. A crap job to say the least but the money is decent. Been there for a bit over a year now but am leaving soon to finish my degree in archaeology. So hopefully whatever job I get when that is done will be much more enjoyable.

Even though it\'s probably considered a crap job by most people I don\'t mind my job. I take complaint calls for a major hotel chain. I\'ve got most of the ways of saying no down to a sience and the rest is pretty much just letting people rant and throwing some kind of a comp at them.

My dream job? Not sure I have one. I\'d LOVE to be Santa some day but the job tends to be gender specific and openings are few and far between. As long as I make enough to take care of me and mine I\'m cool with whatever.

I\'ve had my share of bad jobs, and I can say that working mostly sucks
I\'m a lowly cook, which is kinda the bottom of society\'s ladder and I\'m currently trying to get out of it. I\'ve had about 10 jobs in 10 years, all of them made me unhappy after a while, so I keep moving. I once worked in a video game testing company, which I tought would be great... even moved up in the company and worked in the administration.. It made me more unhappy than any other job ever did.
I think I am not fit for working at all, but one has to pay the bills...

I believe if you go into work backward every day, it\'s time to move... but be prepared to move around a lot to find the \'perfect job\' (If any such thing exist.).
As long as you\'re not married with kids and a mortgage it\'s time to do so... after that it maybe too late.
Do not feel obliged to believe you have to suffer to make a living, it\'s a trap worst than unemployment, and the way the system controls the poor folk.

I am a Butcher and Manager for a shop in western Canada and I love my job! Pays well, long hours in the summer though. Very rarely do I dread coming in to work.... but it does happen every once in a while. I\'ve been here for 11 years, and I plan on owning this company 10 years from now. Price tag is pretty high for me at the moment though....

I have worked some horrendous jobs, like at the slaughterhouse and some other even worse jobs. My top tip for anyone who is dissatisfied is to \"Fake it till you make it\".

This may sound awful but if you pretend you\'re the happiest man in happy ville every day at work one of two things will happen....

1) The process might work and you might find enjoyment in your job

2) You learn you REALLY can\'t stand the work/environment and it\'ll help the decision to move on.

Man, I could bore everyone to tears with my philosophy of work and life but I won\'t. In my career I\'ve taken several pay cuts to get to a better place for many reasons, usually involving finding a place with more room to advance, and I\'ve never been made to be sorry for that.

I wish everyone could find happiness in there day job like I have, I used to not have job satisfaction and it really is a killer. I mean I honestly spend WAY more time at work then with my family so if it was something I dreaded I couldn\'t imagine it. good luck to all!

I design and build gardens, I\'m my own boss and absolutely love it. I used to work as a graphic designer and had an online wargames store but being outdoors all the time really suits me. I think you should sit it out for the time being unless you can score another position and move when you\'re ready and the climate is better to do so. Unemployment will obviously suck!!

I paint commissions for a living and I love it. I just find that I don\'t often get many of my own miniatures painted!

If you aren\'t liking your job, leave it! Just make sure that you have a new job available to you before you leave. In most cases it\'s better to be employed than starving.

Leaving one\'s job isn\'t all that easy, esp. when you\'ve got family and/or dependents. I work in IT security, and while the pay\'s decent, the company stinks (it\'s gotten so political!) and the people are getting snarkier and snarkier. I hate my job with a passion.

It\'s a bit tougher to find a new job for me since I\'m not a permanent resident, plus with the current economic climate, most firms aren\'t likely to hire foreigners.

It\'s so bad right now, I\'m literally dreaming of going on a mad rampage, almost bloody every night ... and I\'ve always thought of myself as a man of peace. Damned, not good for the self esteem!

i have no experience of the work environment due to my age, but id like to bea writer, or a simply a job that i enjoy and look forward to evryday. i know the chances of this happening are lower than the underworld, but its what id love

start writing mate, many writers made it big whilst being on the dole or in poorly paid work.

your still at school so get cracking, you only get better with experience.

Hey guys long time lurker but never posted.
I was a high school dropout with no motivation what so ever. I worked several fastfood and small construction jobs before I landed in my current career.

For the last 12 years I have been a Glazier ( Glass installer, Store fronts, Curtain Wall buildings), and I have always hated it. I am from the south where every place is Right to Work States, and pay is crap. A few years ago I decided to go to college to get a nursing degree that worked out pretty good untill Hurricane Katrina hit my area. After that storm my family and I never could seem to get back into our groove that was working pretty well for us before the storms.

Well long story short; we hated living in the south so bad that we tried to sell our house and move further north or west. After 2 years on the market and getting laid off we ended up having to file bankruptcy and lost everything. We took a savings of $4000 and gambled on moving to Pittsburgh Pa.

I have since transferred to the local Glazier Union and am making more money then I ever have before. in the south the best I could make was $15 an hour with crap for benefits, now I\'m making $55k a year and about another $40k in benefits a year. I have decided to stay out of school awhile and allow my wife to finish her degree and then reevaluate the situation.

I have never made so many friends in my career in my life. People here just seem genuinely pleasant instead of the fake facade people where Im from put on. I have a best friend at work that is probably better then all my friends I have ever had rolled into one. I find a actual kinship with my Union brothers here that was nonexistent back home.

A career I could not stand, that had me so stressed out at times over not enough money to cover the bills, horrible bosses and coworkers, and giving me actual physical problems with my back has finally turned into a job that I love. I dont mind going in on Mondays anymore because I get to hang out with some very cool people. I make enough to not worry about the bills,and to top it off I actually have a pension and a annuity plan for the future. My families healthcare is taken care of. And we have our jobs through next summer zipped up.

You will eventually find it guys. Hang in there and take chances if you dont have a family yet. If you do have a family then think about going to school to get into a career that more suits you. Either way dont get stagnate or your life will suffer. And life is just to damn short for that.
