The Perfect Mini Forum

If you could design a miniature painting based forum from scratch, what features would you have in it.

(this is an ideas thread for some of the work were doing for a forum for Platoon Britannica, were not trying to replace cmon).

I guess its probably worth posting some of the features i\'m trying to get working.

1. Ability to upload photos directly into the forum.
This should remove the need for photobucket accounts etc. The pictures would embed into the posts automatically via the attachement option. You can still use img links if you want but at least the issue of people\'s photobucket accounts expiring leaving broken images should be gone.

2. Lightbox functionality.
Images would appear as decent quality, automatically created thumbnail at first. Clicking an image would load a floating lightbox containing the true size image. This is the sort of thing you see on blogs.

3. Private WIP forum, a private WIP area for members of Platoon Britannica to work on projects like GD entries with access restricted to other members.

why restrict access?

if someone is posting pics on a forum then they should be visable for all to see.
if someone wants to keep a competition entry sectret then they should send pics via email to a few people for critique.

the more we open up this hobby instead of keeping it to closed groups the better, it\'s the one thing that has held back the brits in general.

oh, and apart from the videos, everything mentioned is already done by the basement http://www.tbforum.co.uk/
and it\'s not just aimed at people wanting to win a piece of resin, it\'s their fall all painters, of all standards.

Ahh you misunderstand, there will be a full set of opens forums as well, its just some of the forums will be restricted to members.

Most of the posting (probably 99%) will take place in the open forums, its just some people will be more willing to post very early WIP pics to a smaller community before showing them to a wider community.

I just recently joined the team and im obviously nowhere near the standards of other painters who have signed up, for example i heard that Adrian Bay is a member, so im wandering how the private forums would work. For example would I be able to go on the private forum or do you have to attain a cretain level of painting before you attain access?

One of the things that initially attracted me to Team Britainica was the willingness for the team to accept anyone, which isnt the case in other coutires like Team Germany where you have to show your work and post tutorials regularily. So if there was a private forum you would be only allowing a restricted number of people on is exactly the same as having a team. I think the best way to work it would be after signing up you have to wait like 6 months or a year to be able to go on the forums, although this agin defeats the purpose if other teams can sign up and wait a year the see everybodys work. So who do you plan on allowing on the restricted forum?

I also like the idea of being able to host video tutorials, and the non-photobucket image hosting.

I also like the idea of having a paint along or regular competitions so that everybody can help each other. On other forums like OZ painters they have a theme every now and again where everybody can join in, and i think they now dont take a poll on who wins, so its purely about self improvement although i dont mind the idea of a poll myself.

To be honest thats upto the people organising Platoon Britainnica, i\'m just looking at the technology side of what is or isnt possible.

I think however, its open to everyone, anyone who is an actual member (no painting standard required as far as i know) would be able to access any private forums.

oh , so Ben or one of the other organisers will give admission to anyone who they already know to be a member of the team rather than anone who signs up to the forums? Thats a much better idea, so it works more like the spanish team forums.
