Hiya,

This is my Veteran Sergeant for my own Chapter, the Emperors Vengeance. I originally coated him with GW brush on MATT varnish but he got slated due to the glossy finish, so I got me some dullcote...

BEFORE
MArine-1.jpg

As you can see, shinier than a crazy Diamond!

AFTER

So I do hereby do declare that Dullcote does rock. Lots.

I have also reposted him in my gallery, and if you have a second, any votes or comments would also rock lots.

i agree - dullcote rocks.

putting a more hardy varnish first is good too though, as dullcote isnt the MOST durable varnish in the world.

Just had a look at Horsing Around and it looks like they do a brush on version as well as a spray. Bearing in mind that I live in a small flat so spraying is not a very good option for me, has anyone tried the brush on version and is it as good?

Dullcoat is \'da bomb, as the kids say.

Its actually not that easy to find for me, right here in the states. If I find it, I usually stock up with a few cans.

BTW...the brush on variety is very good as well. Just make sure you don\'t put it on too overly thick as that somehow goes gloss again.

Yep, horsing around is where I got me this miracle in a can! Thanks to freakingace for pointing me in the right direction!!

In respect to the scores, the first picture scored at 5.8 with over 60 votes (although have deleted it now) And the new non shiney one is currently at 7.2 (albeit with only 16 votes!)

Thays a whopping score difference of 1.4!! I did nothing additional to the painting, just the varnish. I agree, will be very interesting to see if this can be maintained when the votes are in their fifties.

Click here for horsing around I personally found these to be very reasonably priced and I had it within 2 days of placing order!

It\'s a great difference! :)

But I\'m sorry. All varnishes are the spawn of satan and should be avoided at all costs.

Back in the day GW also produced a \"miracle\" product called \"Matt varnish\", it had much the same effect. I\'m not sure if they\'ve started making it again. After I got some of the bad stuff and then had bad experiences with other brands (Valejo brush on is distinctly shiney) I tend to agree with Avelorn, though I\'ve started using inks again a bit more, so I definately need to start using decent matt varnish too.

Funy you mention that. I obtained a pot of GW matt not long ago and it seems to be pretty good. Nothing like the effects OD got at all..wierd!

I tend to agree with Avelorn on this though..not a fan of varnish. :]
