But if you think about it, Forge World is really expensive and the shipping is murder too. But people flock to buy it.

The Iyad stuff is really good. I might dare say superior to GW and Rackham. I think I would pay the extra price for some of them.

Funny you should mention it. This year at Spiel Rackham seemed to be making a statement by putting their stand right opposite the GW stand. Added to this, they made sure they attracted attention by bringing Paolo Parente and a sculptor. Oh, and a girl dressed up like a Fianna. She wasn\'t that thin though.

Anyway, on the French figures. I think the prices also have to do with the French market. RPG and wargaming stuff has always been more expensive in France (I noticed that while I was in Bordeaux). Probably because everything needed to get translated into French which is a much smaller market than English. This meant the French gamers have always been used to these kinds of prices.

I have some of the Illiad figures and they are quite good by the way.

Oh, and about resin/metal. Resin production is not cheaper though some people may think so. Costs are comparable.

She got me a suitcase full.. well like 8-10 includeing the limited edition mini. I know the price she paid in Euros wasnt as much as the pounds prices your quoteing..so like any typical markup..the more times they change hands the higher the prices get. I remember when the only way to get Rackham was to buy them from switzerland LOL.. give it time..prices will come down.

Well I know these miniatures are made from resin, but I don\'t know what there manufacturing process is. Resin can be very expensive to produce. So that can lend itself to high final cost.

AS for expensive minis.. Freebooter are 10-12 bucks a piece too in the US..just check the CMON store.

And Mick..this isnt a cheap hobby anymore.. forget about the good ol days of cheap minis..

Jeff yeah Its sky rocketed for sure since we remember back in the 80\'s and 90\'s back then I remeber griping over minis being 2-3 each..I recall having a conversation with Borg about a year ago on some of the minis and him saying they couldnt sell them as they were too high

Hey I remember when Gas was .75 cents a gallon.. I could get 3 cases of beer for $9.99 and yes 5 GW space marines for less than $10.00

Still if you look at the rate of inflation what we pay isnt that bad. I swear if the rest of the world had the same outlook on prices as those in this hobby over the prices of minis.. it surely would be an interesting place.

Well, I am wondering that all of you think Ilyad has such extraordinary quality. To me the sculpts are not that exciting, I think the big Ilyad problem is the big heads. I know heads of miniatures are always a little bit bigger, but Ilyad heads are way to big in my opinion.
Besides the sculpt (I admit scuplting-style depends on ones taste) the quality of the cast is quite good for a resin mini, but the old resin problem (air bubbles) you can also find on Ilyad minis. My last Ilyad mini, a dark sorceress had several bubbles on the edges of her staff and unfortunately at the tip of her nose.
So my personal opinion is that those minis are not better quality than PP or Rackham. If such a mini is worth $10 or more is everyones own decision.

you have a point; to clarify my position, yes, I\'m willing to pay for these, but only for the ones I like! And those I think are superb (which is most of the recent stuff), such as this very new piece:

which I think is sublime and will buy!!!!!

But I agree some is ropey. The older core stuff mainly - but then again I don\'t game

Remember resin figures cannot go back in the melting pot like metals so the price has to cover mis-casts.
Saying that an air bubble on the nose would warrant a complaint from me. Quality control should sort that out. Fair enough on a staff or a bit clothing as thats easy to fill but face detail is a different matter.

I like them. They have a unique style to them from some great sculptors. But I havnt bought any, which says it all really.

well I would be annoyed to spend $10 on a mini and the detail be pitted but considering I have worked with resin before it wouldnt surprise me but on alot larger scale 54mm-170mm..the problem with pitting on such small minis is its very hard to see until you start painting the miniature..which means usually undercoating several times after filling with greenstuff or contour putty..speaking on bubbles and pits im told Fenryl has this same problem.

I still dont understand the reason for their casting in resin, Production costs have to be way more than in metal. Yes it might give a smoother finish to the casting, but I can\'t see that out weighing the costs of production and the final price.

Plus resin is more fragile than metal, eventually it will become brittle as it dries out.

Not really in this case. The castings are done by historex (yeah, the one from the plastic historical figures) and they seem to have a very good set up which keeps the costs down. I had them make a quotation last year and the price was similar to metal. Fenryll has them as a caster too.

There was an article in the French Ravage magazine on materials which I translated for the writer. A copy of the text is found here:

It states a number of reasons why he and some companies like to use resins. Including Illyad.

Yup I didnt say it was good beer.. just beer. It was in 1987 I think.. went to College in Wisconsin and three cases of Walthers beer was $9.99 (Well plus $1.50 a case deposit).. but after 4 or 5 it tasted ok.. but I wouldnt recomend pouring it in a clear glass as you could see hopps floating in it. But yeah thouse were the good ol days when you didnt need a loan to buy beer.lol
