The PROBLEM with Youngbloods!

For the past two years I have entered Youngbloods and each year I earned myself a finalist place. Yeah cool whatever, what riles me is that every year the winner seems to be waaaay older than 14! I dunno maybe I\'ve got it all wrong but it seems to me that youngbloods has turned inot the category for crap painter and under 14\'s. Does anyone have any comments or ideas on how to end this travesty?

I wonder what they do to check the age? If they are just taking someone\'s word for it (as many places do) then it would be easy to abuse the age policy.

By the way, I looked at this thread because a cursory glance at the Youngblood entries from the recent UK GD made me wonder if the painters could possibly be that young - there are some pieces there that seem to be way beyond the level of other Youngblood pieces I have seen. But like I said, it was a quick look, so I could be wrong.

I\'ve been at a couple of GW competitons and yeah,I think there is some sandbagging going on. Maybe I can\'t judge but My sons mini was great for a 12 year old and the one that one was by a guy that I suspect had to be 4 years his senior. My son knew he did a good job and enjoyed it and didn\'t notice. At the state competition this guy didn\'t even enter his minis, maybe thinking there might be a bit more scrutiny at a higher level?

I am sure it is hard for store managers to police this thing. We don\'t have compulsory ID cards in this country (thank god!). They probably have to trust people and unfortunately there are fewer and fewer trustWORTHY people around.

My son decided at a recent Con to say to heck with it and enter his minis in the adult categories and was very pleased with the response, good for him.;)

....did that sound like a proud papa?....

I just turned 15 a coupla months ago, and I was quite dissapointed to learn that I wouldn\'t be able to enter any youngbloods competitons. While I think it would be nice if, say, 15 year olds could enter :), those aren\'t the rules now, so I agree that they shouldn\'t be enterin\' youngbloods. I haven\'t even considered the fact that I might be able to get away with it, although..........:innocent:

You\'d have to be a real wanker to want to win a Youngbloods award even though you were too old. \"Yay, I won a pretty trophy! One that acknowledges that my competitors were children! I rock!\". But then again there are some right @$$holes out there

i think it is probably more a case of \"severe coaching\"
the kids probably do most of the model under strick supervisation of dad or big bro.

mayby helped a little too.

but then again i\'ve watched this one kid paint. and despite the amount of paint all over the table and face, elbows etc. he was painting stuff i\'m not sure i could do.
they start\'em young these days. and with the amout of resources around on the net they pick it up REAL fast.

I agree

They don\'t check your age so those W@nkers can enter whenever they want. Last year I went up to collect my model and guess who was right next to me to collect his model?
So big fat to$$er with a beard whois was probably 18 or so. Now I admit he might have been someone\'s dad but he can have been more that 18 but he certainly wasn\'t 14 or under.
