The Rackham\\Confrontation paint style

I was just looking at Confrontation mini\'s at Rackhams store, and.. they look nice. One thing I seem to notice though, is that skin tones don\'t seem to be heavily shaded or highlighted, the way many mini\'s are here. It seems like its all about a subtle smooth transition... but, am I crazy here? When I see the predator of blood, it looks like they only used a few layers of highlighting and some brown shades to counter act the grey.

The NMM parts seem to have that heavier highlighting, which is maybe why their pieces come together so nicely. And even on some pieces of blue\\red armor (look at the devourers) it seems the highlights are kept to a minimum, in favor of a strong color.

In CryHavoc4 is a painting guide for the Fang Warriors (Wolfen).
And you\'re right. The basecoat was shaded with some brown and the then they highlighted it with some brighter grey.

The art on the cards and some of the catalog shots look so perfectly smooth I have had to wonder if it\'s real or Photoshop.

Yeah, honestly, it does look like an action figure, made of plastic or something sometimes. I feel like they only go up a few highlight stages, and then shading with different colors and subtle glazes makes things stand out, coupled with the white highlights used on metals...

but yeah, cool!
