The media in general is a pain, yup, I agree, and yes, they can blow something out of proportion rather quickly. That being said though, if the woman didn\'t think this would turn into something more beyond her family, she was sadly mistaken as we can all see. Hell, her family was the ones going to the media trying to get help because the police said initially \'its not a missing person, she\'s probably got cold feet\'.
So blaming the media for this isn\'t exactly correct in whole as her family and fiance were the ones worried sick and thus brought it to attention of folks trying to get the police moving on it all the quicker.
It worked. Not exactly in the manner they might have been hoping as her fiance was being questioned and all sorts of trouble was caused from it.
Just got through listening to the radio again on the way home and they were talking with the mayor of Duluth and no one wants to throw the woman in jail ... but they do want her to pay the $60,000 that she cost the city in tax payers money for the week of frantic search. More than fair in my opinion ... costly mistake on her part, but one she should have to pay, not tax payers.
And yes, we all bleed red, but realisticlly, the world in general doesn\'t see it all like that. Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians ... whatever. There is always a definition, right or wrong, it is there. Myself, I\'m married to a Hispanic woman, sure, she\'s light skinned as could be and can pass for \'white\' all day, but it doesn\'t change the fact that people DO get upset when race is brought into something that had nothing to do with it. Yup, lot of Mexican\'s in this area, lots of Blacks and Whites too.
As for charges, I don\'t think she needs to do jail time or the like, but I do think the fact that a whole department was put on overtime, helicopters (and their fuel) were put into the air and a ton of people were stopping their lives to help look for her. Yeah, I think she should pay.
Maybe I\'m a bastard like that. I believe in consequences for all actions, good or bad.
Skeletons in the closet and judgement? Oh, yeah, got plenty of those, but then again, I\'m not about to do something half assed stupid to toss them out there. And you know, even if they did come out, well, none of it is that damn embarrasing.
Wait ... that time I was drunk and naked on El Camino in California .... naaah, that\'s well documented. How about the under aged drinking when I poured a beer out on a cops foot by accident .. heh, no, that\'s just plain funny and I did my community service for that. Well, there was that concert .... wait, that\'s on film, we laugh about it every year. Hrmmm, my jail time? Nope, public knowledge. Women on the side? Nah, never happened.
Shit, there isn\'t anything in that closet that would just devastate me. Hell, I doubt there is anything in the ladies closet either, other than a blatant case of stupidity and selfishness.
