Hey you! Thread! Get up! MiJ has need of you once again...

'allo all :)

Well, while I've managed to dip in and out of the forums over the past few months, I've been kept pretty busy by the wee man (I can't believe he's over 7 months, now, and worryingly mobile already...), However, a certain amount of painting has been done. A wee bit of Cryx, a few Eldar corsair test models (cos I really need more eldar in my collection :eyeroll!:)

Anyway, I've been working on a mini for a few weeks now (on and off) and would really appreciate your advice on it. First of all I should probably say that the mini was already assembled and undercoated (black) when I got it, and also that its a gaming piece not a display piece, so a certain amount of speed-over-perfection is to be lauded. That said, I'd very much appreciate people's comments on it. Particularly, I'd like some feedback on her skin and the green NMM. I rarely-to-never paint normal skin, as the majority of my minis are either eldar (fully enclosed armour) or Nurgle/Cryx (um. not healthy skin). So, advice on colour choices for skin would be great. As for the NMM, as you can see that particular technique and I dont get on :( . I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong, aside from needing to smooth out the blends, which is true for the whole mini, really. Apologies for quickie iPhone pics. If folks need better shots I can set up the camera tomorrow. You can see more shots at various stages of WIPness at the photobucket page. http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k20/me_in_japan/simbaaaaaaa/

So, here's Lelith Lion Lady, as she stands at the mo. Still very much a WIP, of course. She'll be riding into town on the back of Simba here, once she's finished. She'll have arms, too :p

thanks for the comments, gentlemen :)

After a couple of non-painty days (work and baby, mostly) I'm back on the wagon. I intend to go back and fiddle with the lion after everything else is done, and the mane is likely to get a bit more interesting once that comes along. For now though, I did some work on her arm and spear. I'm calling the spear done for now, but the fisty arm needs more work on the torc. Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with the spear, actually. While I wouldn't say I'm winning my own personal war against NMM, I reckon I can claim victory over this particular battlefield :) Need to glaze the spearhead (now there's an interesting euphemism...) with some green to get rid of that airbrush speckle. Wasn't being quite as diligent as I couldve been, and things got a bit cloggy this evening...

Hi all,
I'm pretty new to posting on CMON but I have lurked occasionally in the past and I recognise most of the names in this great thread and am definatly looking forward to seeing more! Very useful for a noob like myself to be able to sorta listen in on your chats and absorb as much info as poss. Its good to see such a friendly and helpful crowd.
Loving the work on the lileth mini and looking forward to the next update. I believe you mentioned having her riding the lion, How you planning on positioning her? Will she be on the lion or being drawn in a carridge/chariot?

The skin looks fine for now but I would probably work the rest of the mini a bit more before coming back to it, so you'll have a better sense of proportion between the shadows and lights. I agree with Cassar, the lion seems a bit flat coloured. Love the spear ( have to learn that sometime ;) )

Looking really nice on the spear. Interested to see how the blonde hair turns out as I always picture this mini with Dark hair.

Thanks all for the kind words. Over the weekend I worked a bit on her base. I'm getting slightly bored of painting tawny, and tbh I dont think her hair looks that great. I'm tempted to go back and do it again, but then again, I ain't made of time, and there's plenty other stuff needing doing. Anyway, I've blu-tac'd the mini together, for the nonce. She still needs her facial details picked out (lips, eyes, possibly tattoos), and the lion's mane still needs doing. Anyway, what say you all - yay or nae on re-doing the hair? Also, the skin needs smoothing, but other than that do you have any advice on how to make the skin look better/more natural?

Btw, these latter 3 pics were taken with flash, and are just to illustrate how the base works. The guy I'm painting it for wanted a base that could work as either cavalry or monster, depending on how he decided to play the lion that day. So, for all it's not the prettiest, it does the job as specified. I'm reasonably happy with it, tbh. It's been many's a year since I did a nice grassy base with flock on it :D

Good lord, has it really been seven months? How the time does fly...

Well, I figured I should get off my proverbial and actually show a few pics, just to prove I do still paint and have not turned entirely into a lurky lurker. I've been super busy the past few months - my wife and I are having a house built, our son is just over a year old, and we have another on the way in September, and work is being...the usual. So, not so much painting done of late. That said, I have managed a wee bit. Here are some pics of what I've been up to.
