Well i saw this ad on CMON or not as i was browsing minis and im just wondering as someone who is starting to develop himself in painting minis is it worth the $9.99, bear in mind that i only have the internet to teach me so i only learn by practice and advice. What do others think to this item? or is there a better alternative out there? other than someone else to give you a demonstration etc.

The mini guide allows you to download a collection of articles by users of this site. I thought 95% of them were great. Some were informative and interesting but not specifically tied into painting miniatures. There\'s also some great tips for taking pic\'s of your completed work.
The majority of the articles that are in the guide are available in the articles section of this site.
I strongly reccomend the articles as a place to start. There all sorts of top notch advice that have helped me improve and more importantly really enjoy painting my stuff. I\'m fairly new here and not anywhere near the level of the most common posters to these boards but I have found everyone to be really helpful.
My best advice is if you want to improve or learn from scratch how to paint figs, check out the articles section. Use what you like the look of, and post pictures in the \"discuss submission\" part of the forums asking for help. You\'ll get it from great painters who have been through it all.
So personally I would give you the advice of spending the 10$ on a minature or some paint and use the articles and these message boards instead.
If you feel you get more than 10$ worth of help from these guys then I would reccomend subscribing to the site to support the efforts here.

Well I checked out your figs and now I feel like a bit of a tool. Abviously you\'re no begginer to painting figs, your stuff is excellent. After taking a look at your stuff I just hope my first post doesn\'t come off as condescending. I really liked your skull pass dwarfs!
When I read your post I thought maybe you were newy-newy to painting figs, but your ranking is a healthy 2600 or so spots above mine. Well done Sir!

There\'s a reason that the \"ULtimate Miniature Painting Guide\" was created for sale from Coolminiornot store.
Some \"low life\" took it upon themselves to copy all the articles and compile them as a PDF and sell it on EBAY.
Needless to say they/he got rumbled and after a couple of attempts to try to sell again, they ended up facing the Trading Standards Officers over Copyright theft.
They also got a series of \"Snotty\" letters from people like me who were authors of the articles.
Personally I think that the ability to have the Articles downloaded and available at all times reather than just online is a benefit. Not everyone has their Painting gear beside their computer.

i bought it. didn\'t realise what it was and was annoyed that i paid for something thats normally free and i have contributed to!! having said that it\'s handy as a download and i am happy i have it now

I didn\'t like the looks of it tbh, but mainly because the preview revealed it to be mainly articles I\'d read already. I think the name is very misleading.
IMHO spending £16 on the Complete Guide by Miniature Mentor was much better, and it shows you as well as tells you what to do, rather than just saying it. I think the articles are useful for something \"different\", but I\'d recommend a video (Jeremie Bonamont\'s new one looks really quite good, and inclusive) for a beginner.

i just wanted to thank you for your informative reply in the forums. I thought i recognised some of the example articles shown. To be honest i have been looking at ways to improve my painting, but i think at the end of the day i will only improve in 2 ways now. One is to post more things and ask for criticisms and the other is to be able to see someone show me a technique so that i can see how its all done. Anyway i will prevail and get better !

Looking at your gallery you\'re obviously a good painter already and there won\'t be much in the CMON guide that you don\'t already know.
For $10 (£5) it\'s cheap enough that I bought it rather than have to keep searching through the CMON forums and I use it for reference quite often.
