The \"What are you painting now?\" thread part II

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
A while back I started a thread asking what everyone was working on, thought I would find out again.

I have given up on painting my dwarf army, doing units seems to suck all the enjoyment out for me. I find I can just about finish a single mini without going mad but anymore and I give up halfway through. I\'ve also been trying to improve my skills and try new techniques and things. So the poor dwarfs are sitting waiting still.

Becasue I\'m no longer painting for armies I\'ve been branching out to stuff other than GW, my first Rackham stuff should be finished in the next few days. I wish I\'d got some earlier, they are fun to paint, although they can have a lot of small detail which makes painting rather hard.

I\'ve also been doing LOTR and 40K inquisitors. I think my next army will be a mish mash of imperial stuff based around inquisitors, I\'ve even been thinking about doing an all inquisitor force with 2 I lords and 3 I elites with some SoB and Stormtroopers, should be fun, if I ever get round to it.

Waiting in the wings is the gorgeous Reaper Guardian Angel, I\'m just a bit stuck on colour scheme, any ideas?

It seems to be taking me 2-3 weeks of evenings to finish a mini at the moment, which is really causing me problems, I need to speed up, but when I do quality drops considerably. Maybe I could get a couple of months off work to paint?

I\'m also trying to think about what I\'m gonna do for GD Australia this year (its months away, but at the rate I paint I really need to start now), knocking about various ideas like a Warmaster scale duel (not sure if thats allowed), unit of zombies and LOTR film scene (possibly the warg attack, or the Mordor trolls attacking Minas Tirith) .

So whats everyone else up to?

I just finished my first set of Scrap Thralls for Warmachine, so I\'m staring at the accompanying Necrotech and debating on starting him.

But, I think I need a bit of a change (any time I do 3-5 of the same mini, I get really bored), so I started on a 1/35 Tamaiya samurai dude (just to play with a new scale), and just tonight grabbed the primed Zoanthrope that\'s been sitting on my shelf for about a year. I got this really, really awesome green going on him (Vallejo Green Sky base, add some Light Yellow highlight, Intermediate Green shadows, then tween them), so I may actually finish him up soon. Of course, I have an exam on Monday, so I should probably be studying rather than painting... :(

On the \"To Do\" list:

Warmachine Nightwretches
Warmachine Cryx box set
Warmachine Bile Thralls (got 36 of these fat boys, so they\'re gonna take a long while)

I may find some other things in between to break up the monotony (and maybe sell on eBay!). :D

I\'m getting pretty good at doing \'endurance painting\', I\'m currently painting 17 Cadians all in one large group. Of course, this means that each coat takes aaaaages, but when I finish, they\'ll all the done.
I\'m also working on a FW showcase series space marine and a small Mordheim Orc warband

I\'ve got dark angels on the go, 2 dreadnoughts to make (1 normal and a forgeworld venerable dread) a rhino.
also a retro orc warband which are early 80\'s perry brother casts and I\'ve just dug out a really nice dwarf on a Shetland pony from the same period which I never got round to doing anything with.
And the CMon comp mini .........
will I ever finish/start

BTW The retro orc\'s are for my cousin\'s birthday which was the 16th March oops:(

Do you have a time frame in which the customer wants you to finish it? Isn\'t it tough with all the other stuff you are working on?

Right now I\'m painting the Dirz drummer, 87.5% finished.

And my C\'tan is still waiting to be finished but he\'s got no luck these days; 74.2% finished.

I\'m agonizing over an Ork Nob right now, and an Emperors Champion, Lysette, and Grimgore Ironhide are all sitting on my desk collecting dust.

Does anybody else hate how many damn little fiddly buckle things orks have? It\'s the 40th millenium and the bastards haven\'t heard of velcro!!

I am doing a dismantle of The Thunderbolt Sorceress as sea with shells ( and we know where those are yes) I am deleting the serpent involved and using a old school Water Drake from Ral Partha I wish to try more water effects.
I am avoiding with this project a
Dueling Dragons
Journey to the Gathering
Scatha
Smaug Dragon
Hundread Kingdoms Gold
Cyborg Dragon
Frost Dragon
and prob 20 Dragons looking at the brushes and paint
The new elves from Tom Meir
I have at least 10 Thunderbolt Mountian dioramas I adore
And a warhammer high elf army
3 commission Krynn dragons
2 commission Draco Dragons
1 raptor commission
I think even half way through this pile I will have improved my work with the practice involved at least I hope so.;)

Since last I checked in...

Last time this went round, I was trying to clear the population of Bench Queens - semi-completed works that had sat for a while. That group has been finished, some sold on ebay, some awaiting payment as commissions. They have been replaced. Sigh. Will I ever just paint something start to finish?

Reaper Sorceresss, five Reaper CAV units (my demo team), 5 GW SOB Seraphims, the Games Day `05 Archaeon, (sp), a couple of commission pieces from Chronopia, Reaper Werner Kloche fairies, etc. No dragons this time. The only dragon I have right now is still in the blister.

I\'m asking myself if I want to do the Sisters to competition standard, of if I just want to get them done and playable, and pull out the stops on the next batch. They are fairly nice pieces, the big question is whether to do metalic paint or NMM.

Finally gathered up all my Swag (Reaper points on the figs) and I had 140 points, enough for two t-shirts and a carry bag.

Seems like a lot of us are mentioning commissions. Might be interesting to see how much any given painter is doing for himself/herself, and how much is for sale either on ebay or as commisisons.

Last year almost everything I painted was eventually sold. This year I\'m keeping more stuff, so I have things to play and put in shows.

Right now, I\'m finishing the Coalshadow thief from Reaper\'s Warlord line. I have also ready to go a Lara Croft figurine, a very old Ral Partha Centaur, an Emperor\'s Champion, an Elven Swordmaster from the Celtos line (Drakon Sûl), and another Ral Partha, a Zulu warrior.
