I heard a while ago that they were going to cast Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones as Johny Depp\'s dad in the next Pirate\'s of the Carribean movie.

Just how cool is that? (if it\'s true....)

Cmon, how could they pass that off?

Looks nothing like him...
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
That would be, to coin a phrase, fecking cool.

Have to agree with Markus on this one....as much as I like Johnny Depp...he just wasn\'t a good choice to fill Gene Wilder\'s shoes.
Both actors were considered on the fringe of acceptability on how normal they were. Wilder played roles that no self-respecting actor would play, played them well, and made money. Johnny Depp has so many different roles under his belt, none of which portray him as wholly sane.

DR: The original was the best. Batman has turned into \"which hunk can we fit in the suit\" With the original you actually had someone who played a bit of a weirdo. You have to remember that he dressed up as a bat becuase he\'s a little messed in the head. The newer movies just don\'t show that.

The book did portray Wonka as much more of a weirdo then the original movie let on, so if they are going that route then maybe it\'ll be watchable. But, like Grumb, I\'ll wait \'till it hits video.

I keep picturing that scene from the Popeye movie, where Robin Williams meets his dad.

Johnney Dep - \"It\'s me Pappy!\"
Keith richards - \"Can ya\' keep it down mate, I\'m a bit \'ungover.\"
Johnny - \"but yer me paps, we gots the same squinky eye...\"
Keith - \"Thats coz I was up all night ya stupid bugger\"
Johnny - \"ands we gots the same corn-cob pipe!\"
Keith - \"It\'s not corn, but I could use another bowl packed, eh?\"

Do you think he\'ll live long enough to finish the movie? It\'s a miracle he\'s still breathing. lol

Wizard of Oz was re-made, with an all black cast, called The Wiz. I think Michael jackson bought the rights to this bomb just to destroy every copy in existance.

I just hope they don\'t re-make Chitti-chitti bang bang, my all time favorite fantastical kiddy movie!

Speaking of Chitty..

Did you know that Ian Fleming (James Bond) wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and if you look closely you will see Desmond Llewelyn(sp?) James Bond\'s Q in the first few minutes.....

6 degrees of Roger Moore.

Now, just so I am not accused of hijacking this thread I always found Willy Wonka VERY creepy. In modern terms like a weekend at Micheal Jackson\'s place.

Becca, just watched the clip

I can understand you being excited but this looks really bad. I don\'t think I could watch it if it were showing on Paris Hilton\'s naked butt and I had my eyes superglued open. Johnny Depp looks real disturbing and creapy kinda gives me that Michael Jackson vibe, I thnik this movie is a huge mistakes.

Sorry.

Just watched the clip too, the only thing I can see as an improvement is the flying elevator, the first one was very cheezily done. Wonke does remind me of Jackson is a surrealistic bizzarro kinda way, very fake looking and scarey -

Wonka - C\'mere Charlie, have some Jesus Juice and let\'s look at pictures of nakit Oompa Lompas together...

lol

Seriously....

Wasn\'t anybody else creeped out by the original Willie Wonka? The guy was plain sadistically creepy. Playing the new one as creepy even Michael Jacksonish seems in keeping with the original movie.

Viewed the clip. Looked good to me.
Depp and Burton work well together. I think they were both good choices.

I remember seeing \"Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory\" when I was very young and having nightmares about the Oompa Loompas (that song is unforgetable) and the tube that sucked the fat kid out of the chocolate river.
The new look of the oompa loompas is a bit more updated. The one shot posted here is only one of many costumes they wear, but they do seem to be into latex. That\'s more disturbing to a grown-up audience. I wonder if there will be any singing....

Notice - the old one was \"Willy Wonka and...\" but the new one is \"Charlie and...\"

Actually Vike, I\'m pretty sure you are the only person on Earth who was creeped out by Gene Wilder...

You probably found Young Frankenstein to be a REAL horror movie. lol

i think what i see is different

Gene- a \"nice\" willy easily seen as \"weird\" but can tell its why hes the chocolate maker, eccentric in a good way

Johnny- weird, secluded, and freaky

i think johnny will be closer to the book, which is quite dark. granted Gene is the willy but maybe johnny will hold some sort of candle to him....:D

I confess I have neither watched the movie nor read the book, but I remembered running across this info on the net a while back, and thought I\'d toss it out for what it\'s worth. Apparently this isn\'t the first change to the Oompa Loompas. Scroll down to item 11 to find info about the Oompas change and pictures from the books.

a long time ago...

I remember seeing a news story about a fire at a whiskey warehouse, and how there seemed to be a river of fire. It was a very striking visual.

Anyhow, I was telling my buddy, that it would be cool to write a send up of the Willie Wonka, but make it for adults.

Whiskey Wonka and the Liquor Distillery, or some such thing. We had quite a laugh over it.

More recently, two cartoons have done similar things. Family Guy had a very funny satire with Pawtucket Pete and his Beer Brewery, and Futurama did one with the \'Slurm\' episode. Both were great.

That was a good one, with the Grunkerlunkers and the river of slurm. lol
