Things you just can\'t get right

I\'m scared to try regular loooking fur - bear or something that is evenly colored - no prob. But something like a Wolf - with a black gray top and tan everywhere else . . . .<shudders>

Mostly because on a real animal it seems like the colors are reversed - that what would normally be dark is light - such that the top colors are dark and the lighter ones are underneath . . .

like in this picture:

<shudders> again . . .

Getting all the colors to work together is the hard one for me. Sure things that are single color are easy but making the colors work is hard - I usually end up with something that looks like it was painted by a color blind orc. lol

I suck at almost everything, but I don\'t care, I do my best and I\'m pleased with my results ( tabletop quality for me ). Although \"suck\" is a big word, before coming to this site I had no idea what NMM and blending was, all i could do was drybrush, so I\'m still in the \"advanced learning class\".
The most trouble I have though is choosing the right colour scheme, I keep making these pages with all sorts of colours and mixes on \'em, but when I put the colourscheme on the mini, it hardly ever looks like on that piece of paper.

it all gives me trouble...AARRGGHH!!

My official vote went for color schemes. I have trouble with gems/lenses, although I\'m getting better at it after I did the interior of my landraider and rhino.:D

White is a problem, as that I play Dark angels in 40k and they have white robes. I sculpt my own robes, and for a while I got so fed up with it comming out crappy  that I started painting their robes green.

I haven\'t tried NMM yet, and reds sometimes give me trouble. I think that finding the time to paint would be my number two complaint (although it should probably be the number one).

Well, Back to work...:bouncy:

Luxury!

Hey! Never mind all these difficulties to do with painting.... My own dificulties start waaaay before then! My own particular juju lies in preparation. I consider myself to be a wizard with a needle file and I am absolutely obsessive about removing all traces of flash. (It\'s also a fault I can\'t forgive in others - it breaks my heart to see a fantastic paint job where the mould lines are still visible)
No, what really screws me up is drilling out gun barrels. I simply can\'t leave them undrilled but I can\'t bear it when they go off-centre. I must have some models whose guns have been drilled/filled so many times it\'s not real. This is possibly why I have become a Rackham convert. Not so many big guns...:flip:

I for some reason can never get White just right. It can be maddening sometimes. Constantlly trying to get it shaded and highlighted just right. :flame:

The other problem is those pesky color schemes. Getting better at finding a wider range of colors as I paint more, but for awhile it seemed like eveything had to have blue in it. lol

the EYES have it.

although I didn\'t see it mentioned, I would have to say that eyes are my biggest problem.

I don\'t know how many more of my mini\'s can be wearing eye patches!!lollol

Isn\'t that half the reason behind the popularity of space marines?:flip:

For me, it\'s light sourcing. NMM is relatively easy if one has an intuitive sense of how light will strike a particular metallic object. But most minis are painted as if they are surrounded by a 360-degree light and then the NMM parts are painted with a distinct light facing in mind. The other bugaboo is eyes. Often the sculpt doesn\'t spend enough detail on the facial features, which means they either have to be resculpted or \"created\" using clever shading. Most minis I paint take at least 10-12 hours, and many take more than that---and at least two hours of that is getting the face right.:(

I have trouble painting anything with color...

No seriously it\'s gems.. I just use some gemstone paints I got a while back (paint them over bare metal and they look like gems, real nice stuff).

boots

I always have a problem with what the mini has on their feet! Boots, shoes, sandles, you name it! I leave that for last and can never get the boots to look right. And belts and puches as well. And gems.....oh and Light source (haven\'t even tried that yet) and NMM....oh heck! Why do I even pick up a brush:D
