Thinking of scratch building a thunder hawk

So as the topic says, iv no idea where to begin, i was clearing out my attic and found an old x wing (not the original one) a newer version. The wings and engine would be perfect for conversion. What other materials do i need? or are there any sites that could help,

cheers

find a load of reference pics from gw/forgeworld.

i would say, get a load of foam as a base (keep it strong but light) build over that with plasticard and some putty

for the putty i would recommend avies apoxie sculpt or magic sculp.

use wires and other assorted cabling for details. also maybe bitz from vehicles things

good luck and post pics

Never thought of foam, then plasticard. Its going to take ages. Im going to source materials today and perhaps a template to get size just right. My wife is due to give birth soon, so lots of late nights i can use!!

Thanks

well, a project of that magnitude should take time. you wouldn\'t want it to look like something a newborn would\'ve done better when you\'re done.
Take it slow and be patient and we will all enjoy it together! :D

the trick is to build it up slowly. get the rough shape and size first with the foam, the block out the main panels with plasticard (you could use normal card but i wouldn\'t want to risk warping tbh)

then detail away

This foam, is their a name for it? Could i get it at B&Q. I think iv seen a few different colours aswell, pink, white and green. Must be slightly different makeup?

Also, rivets. How can i make em, or can i buy bags of them somewhere?

Any going to butcher some old star war toys. Iv found recently my mum binned some of my original toys including Slave 1. Raging!
