was it you compiling the list? i don't think he's sleazy per se, just a bit weird. coupled with the eeevil genius part
No biggie...he just staged an event once where he was going to be shot on live TV and they advertised the thing up by holding a well-publicised recruitment campaign for the 'trigger man'. As I'd like nothing better than to shoot the bugger I volunteered and managed to get through a couple of the selection stages.
He's undoubtedly a very clever man and does use a lot of skill in what he does, but obviously all his tricks are 'staged' to some degree. He's our equivalent of your David Copperfield....
If he was just a showman I might like him a bit more but he writes loads of self-help books 'Get Thin', 'Get Rich' etc which just make him stand out as a bit of a money grubbing attention whore...IMO.

have you read his book finn? it may change your mind about him. he totally open and explains how he just uses 'tricks' and psychology to work out stuff. he uses a lot of nlp, which is very popular in psychology atm

Anyhow, I've been watching a few more of Derren Brown's thingies. Extremely impressive. My favorite was when he convinced Simon Pegg that the gift he bought him for his birthday was indeed exactly what Simon wanted. I don't know how much of that is staged or what, but it's pretty cool.

I've just finished listening to "Confessions of a Conjurer" and would recommend it. It's a fairly gentle paced audiobook (guess the book is the same) and it's quite interesting to listen to him explain basically various things that has led him to the "job" that he does today.
His website states "Derren Brown is a performer who combines magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship in order to seemingly predict and control human behaviour, as well as performing mind-bending feats of mentalism" Which pretty much sums up his act completely - note seemingly predict and control. One thing I would also say is that if you see him live he is a fantastic showman, stuff on the telly does paint him as much more serious and dark character.
