This is probably the wrong area, but...

I thought I\'d just throw this up here first.

It\'s my first real attempt at making a mini look good. LP\'s been helping me with advanced techniques and stuff like that.

I threw him up on the site but I know it\'ll probably get like a 3.5 and or something.

This should probably go in \"Discuss Submissions\", but hell, I\'m not the forum nazi :)

The freehand on the big guy\'s butt-banner shows you haver painting ability, but the job on rest of the minis seems well under that. The black is VERY flat, and the red, while shaded, seems grungily indistinct and doesn;t stand out very well. The gloss varnish on the girl has got to go as well.

actually, LP did the sigil and the sword blade

and I sprayed \'em with citial matte varnish, and they came out way too glossy.....oh well

@wolf_fang it\'s not freehand, the sigil is actually modeled there

Nice start, and as NSA said - should be in discuss submissions area, but I haven\'t goose stepped in a long time so ...

:D

You\'ll hear this over and over, but thin your paints. Everyone says like the consistency of milk, but to be honest, I\'ve never understood what the hell they meant by that. Just add a bit of water, or flow improver and do multiple coats.

Start with your middle range of your colors that you want to do, such as a middle ranged red. Paint it thoroughly and smoothly, then go in with a darker read and do a wash (really thinned down paint) to pick out your details. Then begin the process of bringing your highlights out.

Starting off, I would suggest a simple dry brushing so as to get used to the idea of shadows and highlights. Thin your paint, put some on the brush, and then remove a majority off of it on a paper towel - until it seems like you don\'t have much of anything on the brush. Then lightly brush it across your miniature where you want to highlight and you\'ll see that it brings out the highlights (don\'t push down on it - you just want the higher portions of the miniature to get your highlights).

That\'s a start, go from there. There are a TON of different ways to paint, with many painters swearing up and down to one style or another and I\'m sure you\'ll get quite a bit more technique critique here if you ask for it.

Word of caution though, if you ask, be prepared to listen, and have a thick skin. If you can do that, this place will help you immensly!

Oh, and get a matte finish to coate your miniatures to take the gloss off them.

Best of luck.

Thick skin....

@Frustrated Father Don\'t worry, living with LP and you have to have some pretty thick skin lol ;)

just kidding :D

she\'s been trying to get me to actually try seriously painting for a while, but I really don\'t think I have a tenth of the skill she does, but I figured with my Warmachine armies I may as well at least try to make them look decent.

I think part of the problem with the red is the Vallejo paints I tried to use ended up being really chalky in texture....I had to switch over to GW reds, but that was after I\'d already painted most of the model :(

I mix my paints rather freely actually as I have a wide range of Citadel, Armory, Reaper and Vallejo paints and I haven\'t had any problems mixing them (not that I\'ve noticed yet I should say).

One of the things that I have found a big help here is, if you have a miniature you\'re about to work on, maybe take a stroll through the CMON galleries to see what others have done before you. Don\'t be discouraged (there have been a few times I have been I admit) and maybe try to emulate some of the things that you like.

It\'s a good start...

You should of sarted with grey, and done a few black washes instead on the black areas. Then highlighted again with grey. The Red needs highlights on both minis.

I have both of those models, but I only finished the girl, so you have one up on me. I lost interest halfway through Gorshade because I REALLY hate the weird position of his left arm. I was going to mod him with the arm straight out as if he were pointing to something, but I haven\'t got around to it.

I will probably buy him again for the mod, and because I enjoyed painting the Deathwalker so much. If anyone wants to see her she\'s in my gallery...

(I know, that was a cheap plug) ;)lol

Links for everone. :D

Goreshade and Deathwalker

I think that these are a good start. I would go back and try to add some depth to the colors as well as some pop to them. You have already gotten some good advice here on what to do the next time. I also think that these are better than 3.5 and have voted them higher than that.

One thing that we all learn over time and is very important is to thin your paints. It does make a difference.

The red and black is always a nice color scheme. I think that his hair needs to be a different color and his skin tone is too close to the blue of his tabard. The bases are nice and simple and work well for gamining miniatures.

AWWWWW my booboo posted his first minis :D

Oh how cute!:D

You dont think that i have told him this before! He is just stuborn and pigheaded like myself. (that what we get for being the only children in our family)
I think now since other people are telling him to thin his paints that he will (cross fingers)
So now I get to do the \"I told ya so\" dance at home lol:Dlol

Its a good enough start.I like red and black combos too.
Only advice is to keep practising and dont get down when things dont work out.

Just to add... get some Testors Dullcote! I hear the stuff does near-miracles, and given where you live, you should be able to get your hands on some, other than poor lil\' me... :~( Otherwise, like the rest said, good start! God, what a conformist I am... *goosestepping off* :D

Funny you should mention that...

@Godlike: yeah, we just found some at a crafts store, but I completely forgot we had it and grabbed the stupid citidel one instead ... oh well :~(
