Threvus, Sword Master

I really enjoyed working on this one for the Wargaming and Miniatures Paradise competition. I had this idea of a one man defending the only bridge to his village over what amounts to be a sewage drain. The theme of the competition was \"water\" and it allowed me to take this idea from my sketchbook to reality.
The bridge is (of course) scratch built, and there is a body in the water (though he cannot be seen clearly because of it. The idea is that the bridge disappears into the distance over the nasty scummy water, and Threvus\' sole duty is to defend the only way into the village all by his lonesome.
Threvus was almost a joy to paint, but I was under a time crunch, so he was painted in two days. Thats not nearly enough time to give him the attention I wanted to, but I am very pleased with the result. It took me until I was highlighting his hair to realize that those are bells in his Slash-esque hair. Why I grown man wears bells, I have no idea, but he is a sword master so I guess he can do as he pleases.
As always C&C are more than welcome.

You have set the scene well and the water is very convincing.
The painting for me lacks a bit of contrast though.
More use of light and shadows would certainly lift this piece up into the 8\'s for me.

Good job.

Having now painted this one, I have to agree its not the best sculpt. As far as light and shade, the original plan had a lamp on the bridge, and I was going add some OSL. Sadly, time did not allow it.
Thanks for the comments guys!
