Thumbs up, or thank you Astonia

After seeing a while ago the photo of how Astonia\'s dealing with excess paint on her brush instead of licking (and, as far as I remember, Ritual does the same), I tried this approach. And loved it! It\'s very handy -- or should I say, \"thumby\" :D

Totally recommended lol

I\'m glad you like the \'technique\', Margo! :D My left thumb, and sometimes index finger, look like that all the time. It\'s quite fun to look at it the next day and re-trace all the painting you did last evening from all the paint streaks. lol

I must confess, though, that I accidentally put my brush in my mouth a while back! And... I kinda liked it.......:( I can\'t seem to stop doing it now. So now I\'m a thumb-wiper AND a brush-licker...

Err ... it washes off easily, doesn\'t it? :)

I usually use the fingernail of my thumb, because it\'s a good surface to \"sharpen\" your brush when loaded with paint, and it\'s easier to clean.

I sometimes use my thumbnail as a temporary palette to mix paint on if I need just very little of it.

for you -- yes, but not if you have nail-polish on it lol Acryllics stick so well to it!

don\'t know... I think it\'s pretty easy to peel off a layer of acrylics from my thumbnail by just using some water

what is wrong with you people, haven\'t you ever heard of pallettes?

lollollol

Ok, so I do lick my brushes, but only after washing them out. I use my big flat ceramic tile pallette to shape the brush when it\'s loaded with paint. I used to use the ball of my thumb years ago, but it started to irritate me, so i quit that. Mind you, I have a desk, with 4 ceramic tile pallettes, 3 well pallettes and and old cutting matt that i all use to mix and mess with.... you guessed it, my desk looks like an exploded paint factory.

I am from the minigrrrl school of brush licking! I never lick it when laoded with paint... i use the pallette to sharpen the point on a loaded brush!

:D

After a long painting session, my entire thumb, ball of my thumb, often the back of my left hand are covered with paint. AND my lips & tongue are differant colours from sucking and licking my brushes.

I once went to the shop, when I got back with the milk for my coffee, I looked in the mirror :eek: Multi-coloured lips & tongue!!

That is in addition to all the spills and blobs of paint that are on my clothes, in my hair and even on my shoes!!!

No, why, on the contrary, Tammy! See that transparent plastic thing with loads of indistinguishable colour on it?

The thing is, I only use a palette to mix paints. As for wiping, I always have a tissue. But sometimes it\'s esier and quicker to wipe the brush on my thumb -- and much closer to the mini, which doesn\'t let the paint dry on its way to the mini :D

I just do what comes naturally... :innocent:

Usually my thumb. Sometimes my shirt, sometimes a tissue. But getting the paint off my thumb has never been an issue, let it dry, then give it a rub. If it\'s proving stubborn, then my new wash mix (which has a little ammonia in it) loosens the paint within seconds, and it peels right off.

Yep the thumb nail serves many purposes when painting. Jar opener, Thread remover, Screwdriver and painting pallette.
But I was under the impression that most people would be using their \"offhand\" to wipe paintbrushes upon.

And yes I have licked my brush with both paint and paint flow extender on.

Is this thread going to descend into \'which paint tastes best\'. My fave\'s are Vallejo Cobra brown & GW\'s badmoon Yellow lollollol:moon:

PVA & any Varnish :|~

@Dragonsreach: What does \'flow extender\' taste like?
