A palette, I love that idea, it\'s brilliant! I just knew there had to be some use for that hard bit of keratin at the end of my left thumb. Gonna try it out as soon as I can.

donga666: for a potpourri of flavour, try licking your thumb at the end of a painting session. ;)

Glad to hear it...

I\'m glad to hear that I\'m not the only one who uses the thumbnail on my left hand as a palette. ;)

I\'ve never gotten into the brush licking thing though. Can\'t imagine that the paint taste that good... lol

Cheers,
Grumb

Yes, I know people who do that :) But it always amazed me -- isn\'t a thumbnail too tiny for mixing paints?

It\'s excellent if you only need a tiny amount of paint. Then you have it close to the mini so you can use what you need before the paint dries up. :D

This coming from someone who paints miniatures to a very respectable standard?

@donga666: Didn\'t think of that, but what if you chewed them?

doesn\'t painting your thumb cause problems...

for hitchhiking?lol

I have been a self professed brush licker for quite a while, but I guess I didn\'t realize that people do it WITH PAINT ON IT!! After cleaning the brush in a cup of water, I just reshape it by sticking it in my mouth.

I sometimes dilute paint on the brush by licking it. Yes, disgusting, isn\'t it? :innocent:lol

Yes! lol
If you want to get rid f this habit, drink milk while painting, chew gum and wear lipbalm -- the thought of diluting your paint with all that will stop you, believe me! Been there, done that lol

Paaal-lette? what is this Pal-leette...

I recall there was a discussion of how to make a wet palette a while ago. Hello people, we\'re born with one! It\'s our tongue. Use the gifts you were given!

Ok, I\'ve never gone THAT far, but I fall into the club of licking paints off the brush, not just water. If I\'m doing detail work and I mess up with a color and want to paint over it fast, I\'ll suck the paint off the brush to clean it fast to get another color in less time. I am NOT a thumb painter however, I actually agree, I find painty thumbs more icky than licking paint, but then I\'m bias. :D

Oh my, a thread with my name in it :wow:

I\'m glad I could be of help. The thumb is indeed the best wipe off area, and I also use the nail as a mini pallette sometimes. Especially good is where the nail meets the skin, wet paint actually stays wet there quite a while so you can use it over and over. Very handy when painting three pair of eyes in a row... :D

Another good thing about the thumb is that it\'s easy to see if the paint is thin enough by looking at how it flows down the creases of your skin.

Edit: @Supervike, no that\'s not my thumb....this is my thumb:

lol (This is obviously in the beginning of a paint session, usually the whole thumb is multi coloured)

Darling, you\'re a true expert! :) And yes, that\'s the picture I was talking about. Thanks for inspiring me to try the \"technique\"! :)

I use my thumb to hold a small wad of green stuff when working on conversions. Usually just separate what I need with the sculpting tool(s).

I don\'t use it for paints, though... and I still lick my brushes (but only after they\'re rinsed). :)
