I had intendedto leave theforums alone for a while but seeing your thread has given me cause to reply.
there are many different manufactures of minis out there, you may want to give these a look as they stock a good range and give good service too.

Just ordered some Warmachine stuff from Game-mart. Another GW refugee, ex-redshirt (I know they are black now, but it was 9 years ago!!!).

Worth a look:

Some great looking stuff (some so-so stuff as well), not given them a bash yet but I will:D

And there\'s the CMON shop as well;)

I got to agree with you folks, another price hike sure stinks. I\'m afraid to calculate how much I\'ve spent on GW the past 10 years. I\'m sure by son will be disappointed when he ask for money for college, and I point to a pile of pewter and plastic.
Couple of friends and I have been discussing if GW will reach a point when they will price themselves out of the market. I really like what they have been doing with the resins but I just don\'t have that kind of scratch laying around. OH well.
I strongly agree it\'s time to move onto a more affordable mini-gaming system.

Tell me about it!

I saw the light a couple of years ago and moved over to Rackham/DarkAge/I-Kore.

I went into a GW yesterday though to buy two miniatures for a friend, Lysander and Cptn Shrike. Now I know they are both characters and quite detailed minis but they came to 17 pounds for God\'s sake!!

17 quid for two poxy 28mm minis:eek:

Try making figures of your own from blu-tack.

It works for me, but only because I like making mushroom men and strangely phallic life-forms.

It was mentioned on another thread that side-by-side there isn\'t all that much difference with the rank-and-file minis of GW and others. It is expensive but if you\'re a painter it is a cheap hobby still. It was also suggested that other companies would emulate GW with price-hikes because they can get away with it if GW do so.

Blu-tack - the way forward.

Unlikely. They do have marketing and research people working there, not just sculpting and painting slaves and a money-grubbing CEO. If their sales start to slip and prices seem to be the cause, they\'ll cut prices, or add value somehow to bring sales back up. Of course, such a price cut would be trumpeted as \"GW is doing this for the gamers, because we love you guys!\" and not \"Please don\'t stop buying us, we have a $5000 a day crack habit to support\".

I\'ve been to Warhammer world/Lenton, it\'s like the lowest form of Crack den, but a bit more \'pubescent\'. Selling like the lowest form of \'skag\' dealer, but Mummy & Daddy foot the bill.

You can smell the place before you get there....
