Time to Lower My Score

OK, finally 60 votes on this montage, time to show it in the forums and have the total lowered:

Mordheim Marienburger Warband
img451fe98bb8b4f.jpg

I actually had each of these posted as seperate voting thingies and each was in the 5\'s, but with improved photography and presentation I seem to have done better.

Pointers are, as always, appreaciated but I did paint these back in \'99 and my technique has changed since then (not necessairly for the better it seems).

They are glossier than normal as they were painted for tabletop use and battledamaged somewhat as they have seen heavy tabletop use as they were my Mordheim Warband at the GW store league in Katy Mills Mall (TX), which BTW I did very well in.

This causes me pause to ask another question... Which do y\'all think is better, individual pics of figures groups (think each of these mini pics above as a seperate voty thingie) or a groupshot with key minis displayed (like this picture)?

I really like them, its nice to see whole units or whole armys put together, i appreciate large groups like this because i know the effort that has went into painting them as a whole. These i voted an 8, singly i would give each a 6.5-7.

In all honesty I\'m not a fan of garish colours. I do, however appreciate its not to everyones taste.
I\'d give it a 7-8 I think, all things considered :)

I think a small unit would do it, but something draws me to the individual element.

A very nice warband, a 7.5 from me. Wasn\'t too keen on the redshirts though, like a bit more individuality.

Over all a nice unit. I give them a 7. I do think the reds are a little flat looking, or at least showing in the picture as flat.

As for your question, I personally perfer pictures to have a single mini in them.

A nice bunch.
Faces are great, very expressive.
The reds are a little bit close to fushia for my taste, and hard to see the contrast.
The bases could have used more than dirt too.
Faces are really the strong point.

Considering the current context on CMON, 6.5. ( Times are tough I know.)

For the photo question, if theyre a unit I think you got it right, a montage with a group shot and a few individuals work best for me.

Did the vote thing. I will usually vote higher for a unit than an individual (unless its a character of course) Nice warband.

I think I would prefer to post a group over individuals. I say \"I think\" because I\'ve yet to paint a group.

I would post individuals of that group if they were special characters, leaders or any other unit focus as I would put more work into that mini.

Nice work by the way, Makes me want to play Mordhiem again...
will go vote now.

Thanks everyone for the comments and votes, I\'m quite pleased/shocked with the 7.0 this now has, individually the highest was about 5.8 (longrifle). I think they look much nicer photographed as a unit, it completes them and helps excuse the color scheme. BTW blame GW for the color choices as they are the \'shop colors\' of Marienburgers, I kept them cleaner and shinier than most because Marienburgers are rich gits who can afford new duds all the time.

As GreenOne pointed out the faces I should mention that I am rather fond of them myself. Oddly I don\'t think I paint faces as well now as I did back then, but at least I\'m much better with reds now (as most of us know red is about the most difficult colour to work with). Indeed the reds, espically on the handgunners, are quite underhighlighted. This is in part because I didn\'t really do them right and part because the gloss coat washed out the highlights that were there.

Interestingly enough these are now my highest rated mini(s) on CMoN.

Hmmm.. I don\'t think red is so hard to work with, in fact there is a lot of latitude for shading and highlighting reds. I feel it\'s harder to make good clean yellows or makingsmooth transitions on blue.

And I think showing a mini on the forum is usually positive on the scores too... the way I see it, the mean guys with sniper rifles are rarely forum denizens...
