TIME TO VOTE - Wereshark WYRD Painting Contest

I have been wanting to do a \'fun\' painting contest for some time now and with the opening of the Wyrd Games website, there is no better time than now.

Since this is \'my\' contest I\'m going to go ahead and make it a bit of interest to me and hopefully to rest of you as well. I will pick one miniature that I like and that hasn\'t been done to death with paint and conversions on all the major forums and miniature voting sites and it will then be up to you to acquire, paint, base and convert as you so desire, as long as the majority of the miniature remains recognizable in one form or another.

So lets get to the meat and bones of this.

The contest will run six weeks, from March 25th to May 6th. This time frame should allow all participants time to pick up their miniature, work their magic and submit it. Conversions are allowed and encouraged! There of course will be prizes and should this prove to be successful, additional contests will be planned throughout the year.

The miniature for the first contest will be the \'02890 WERESHARK from the Dark Heaven Legends Line of REAPER Miniatures\'. This is a fairly new release from Reaper Miniatures and one that has quite a bit of potential when given the treatment with the right brushes.

You can enter as many times as you wish, and all entries will be displayed upon the Wyrd Games website anonymously while the contest and the voting are in progress, after which identities will be revealed.

Your entries CANNOT have previously been showcased in any forum, miniature voting community or website and there will be no individual advertising of miniatures so that you can get a leg up on the competition. If you are found to have violated these rules, your entry will be pulled from the competition. After the contest is completed and the winner is announced, you will be free to showcase you work as is your proper due!

Voting will be by the public, not just myself, and will consist of an e-mail sent directly to me with your votes and comments. The person that receives the most votes wins in their category.

What do you win you may ask? Miniatures and swag of course!

Reaper Miniatures (the top U.S. miniature manufacturing company) is graciously providing the prizes for this contest which I will divide up and post to the winners. Free SWAG, you\'ve gotta love that!

The categories for voting and prizes will be:

BEST OF SHOW
BEST BASE/DIORAMA
SOME RANDOM SCHMUCK GETS A PRIZE!

I of course will be joining the painting contest quietly and anonymously as well for the fun of it, but if for some reason I actually manage to win (not likely with the paint gods out there) the prizes will be given to the next runner up.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to drop me an e-mail or leave a note on one of the many forums I frequent and I will do my utmost to reply in a timely manner. You can find all the details of the contest at WWW.WYRD-GAMES.NET or follow the link in the banner signature below.

As a side note for CMON\'ers in particular, if you are interested in ordering your miniature online, particularly if you are overseas and have a hard time finding Reaper Miniatures, Tracy (TAB Studios) of the Hedge Wizards online store has offered to help as she has to put in an order for her own shark. Act quick so she can get it in one go!

Now get painting!

Sounds great! I might even take a stab at it, though I suck. :p Hey...maybe I\'ll get the random schmuck prize!

Frustrated_Father! Congrats on getting the website up!

I\'m game for the competition! Tracy, how fast can you get one of these over to Denmark? (by humanly-affordable delivery)

Equus, we\'ll be competing for the random schmuk prize!

Online stores Jo! Hit Tracy up if you need. Plenty of time for that bugger to make it across the ocean.

:)

@ Equus

Heh, that\'s the reason I put it in there for people that don\'t feel they are up to it quite but to get participation none-the-less. Fairly sure the \'random schmuck\' (I need to trademark that .. hehe) would be where I would land too if I had a hand at it!

@ Everyone

If you are on forums or lists that you think others on there might be interested in, drop them a line, specially for the overseas and non-english speaking forums (that\'s what I\'m stuck to myself, no French, German, Russian, Itallian, South American .. etc .. for me).

Hopefully we have a good turn out and can keep this contest going every two months or so!

I\'m in a bit of a quandry...

I just saw this figure for sell at my LGS, and restrained myself from buying it (because of a no-buy contest/competition I am having....:mad:)

I\'ll have to figure something out....The painting contest sounds great and that mini is awesome!!

Me too!

@ Tracy: send me an invoice for 2, please!

Eric is entering? *sigh* Is there a second place prize? ;)

Can\'t wait to get the minis, I already got a few ideas \"swimming\" \'round my head.

@ FF: I see \"short stories\" on your banner as well. Do you take submissions?

Whee, Happy-Fun-SquirrelyNuts-Painting-Contest! Yay!

hehe...sounds like the competition for the Random Schmuck Prize (tm) is heating up!

Guess I\'ll go ahead and order one of them sharkies later today. I\'m sure there\'s some other Reaper mini that I\'ll be wanting to buy too. Preferably one that I can afford. :D

We almost have enough there to make a reality television show! Heated competition...unusual personalities...and weresharkies!

I\'m going to have to try to keep myself from emptying my wishlist at the Reaper store. Sad thing is that I placed an order on another site for dullcote and stuff just last night. Oh well.

Ya know, we should get together sometime Drake. Since the good old days when I was a retail slave, I haven\'t really been hanging around anyone else that paints. :~(

@ Drake - I\'ll u2u ya so we don\'t hijack this thread...anymore than we already have anyway. :D

And I think I thought of how I want to convert my little wereshark. Now I just have to get the min. Wonder if American Eagles will have it or not. Maybe I\'ll spin by on my way home. :bouncy:

*evil grin* I watched the end of Jaws last night, and came up with a new inapproprate idea for this model, should be fun!

(laughing) The Random Schmuck Prize (TM) is apparently hotly contested and looks like there are a few competing for it. Heh, I was just being a smart ass when I tossed that out there but Becca said I should keep the schmuck part so you can thank her for it.

As for the website Marineboy, well its not going to win any prizes, but its there more or less to host pictures and the contest which I\'ve been thinking about here for a bit. Hopefully there will be enough interest generated that we\'ll be able to have future contests as well. Eyeballing the Warbride right now.

And so for Duende, I haven\'t managed to get any of my short stories up yet, but that\'s something to work on. I might accept some and put them on up. Something to think about.

Anyhow, can\'t wait to see what some people come up with as I\'ve been lurking in some of the other forums here and there or talking to people and it sounds like there are a lot of neat ideas that have been \'leaked\' (its driving me crazy). Bases and battle scenes have been bandied about, conversions to \'dire sharks\' (that\'s a D&D thing I think) and hammerheads and then of course the differnt types of sharks and their paint jobs.

Heh. Wonder if someone will make a \'Nurse Shark\' (ducking and running) ...
