Thank you Dexter and Chris

the Wolfen is up in the gallery http://www.coolminiornot.com/455518

and on P&P https://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/30580 with a little video turn around no less!

in the mean time I’ve started on this fella from Archvillan Games the Frost Ginat Jarl. My first attempt at a 3D printed mini and I have to same I’m presently surprised. Started on the bear first as I think he’ll be the easier of the 2 to paint and it will help me break the back of the project. C&C always welcome

Tim

Georgous mini, and outstanding paint job so far. The bear is amazing, and the ice looks so real. I'm looking forward to see the barbarian painted.

The bear looks great so far, I love how you do the combination of the brown, blue and red. Same thing on the wolf.
And I agree with Dexter, the ice looks great. The hue shift on the tichker underside of the ice, vs the whites of the hanging icicles, makes it look magically translucent. I'm scribbling down notes as fast as I can lol. It's like taking an art class right here!

Are you kidding?!?! This is outstanding.. LOVE that bear! He's awesome :)
I really like some of the archvillain sculpts.. I have a large bear vanguard which I think is by them but I'm nowhere near good enough to paint him yet.. I just really loved the model and bought him so that, one day, maybe, I can do him justice...

Cheers gents

@Chris I have to admit here that the base is a 3D print that I got done in a clear resin. It’s that which gives it this lovely quality. I have helped it out some with some GW shades, Kimera blue and S75 Caribbean blue. A light dry brush and then some gloss varnish. I’m pretty happy with the results so far

Base looks awesome, who cares if it was printed, you still did the painting on it! And that bear looks spot on, love the colors used, especially to make the light spots

Base looks great, Tim. Beautiful color. And you have captured that golden sheen on the bear fur nicely. Shaping up to be a first rate project.

Cheers gents! I was really having fun with him but something else has arrived on the doorstep and he’s not going to wait!

Master Sulfur and the Red Troll in da house! Very early WIP at the moment, just blocking in the colours to give myself an idea of where I’m going with him

No foul, mate! That is a great idea, I'll have to try it myself with some clear epoxy resin sometime.

The red troll looks friggin epic! At first glance I thought red skin and yellow teeth, but then it hit me just how many hues, transitions & reflections you've worked into this. Awesome!

cheers dude I really appreciate that, a lot of work has gone into him at this point and I was really struggling

I would probably have ditched the bear and giant for that new figure myself, great work on it so far!
It had to be done, I was really enjoying the Frost Giant but I’ve been looking forward to this bust for months now.

After a frustrating start I feel like I’m getting into my stride with him now

Great job on that cover story for Fantasy Figures International, Tim! Splendid model.
Thanks matey, I was shocked when the approached me to do the step-by-step and I thought they where joking when they mentioned being on the cover, I was floored when I found out it was the main cover image!? I still can’t believe it!

Cheers John and Dex.

I wish I could take credit for the lighting but Paul deserves that, im
just trying to paint what I see. It does give me the opportunity to really analyse the artwork though and I’ve found a new level of appreciation for the painting and Paul’s skills! He really is a Master! It’s actually a pretty limited palette as well which is also really fun.

Joce sooooo many cool details! I love turning this little guy around and discovering another little Easter egg I’d not noticed!

today was about Master Sulfurs tome. I had a notion to paint some inscription on the pages so it looked like a spell book. I asked a mate who’s mad into Rackham if he knew of any illustrated spells from the game and apparently there’s only one, a plague of rats! It’s seemed really fitting but it was too big for the page so I picked out 2 little furry critters and tried my luck. I’m really not great at freehand, I lack Joce’s patience and precision but I’ve perceived. I do like who the rate turned out but I was far from happy with the other page. I did a spell from one of the Hero Quest cards and frankly it looked shit

I slept on it and then decided rather than repainting it I’d add some more pages to the book. It would get rid of my SMC rap wolf thing and also help the book look a little more realistic. I measured up and cut a strip of foil from a wine bottle top (a nice Spanish Crianza) primer it and roughly folded it and shaped it, opened it back ip
and painted designs and inscription on each page. No you can’t see them all as I’ve glued some of the edges down but if you turn the mini around you can catch a glimpse of them and I know they’re there! I’m really happy with how it’s turned out.

next I needed a cover and as you can’t see it on the art I felt I could add another little little Easter egg. My mate came up trumps again and showed me a cool Confrontation goblin icon which I thought would look really cool.
not easy but cool. As I say I’m not that comfortable with freehand but it’s something I’m trying to improve so I went for it. I actually think it came out better than the pages!
