I reckon Brokenblade would be a good bet (assuming he wanted it of course!) Not only the quality of his work but the speed he churns them out at too!

I think it will be a total pain in the ass to have to paint minis 8 hours a day...?...

And there is not mentioned how much one gets...:)...

I would like to do a Practicum there, though...:D...

Would they be offended if you sent in pictures of all non-GW minis with bottles of Rackham and Vallejo paints prominently displayed? Or better yet, include GW figures with all the blatantly obvious mold lines on them. (not that I mind GW figures but the one I am working on now is covered in mold lines)

I can think of better things than being paid bugger all, being told what to paint and in what colours, and having my hobby turned into work. I\'ll pass (not that I\'d get a look in anyway)

I feel sorry for the folk that have to trawl through thousands of emails :D Not for me. I paint around 6 hrs a day and don\'t have time to paint for my self as it is. At least being self employeed i can have the option of turning down a commission.

I reckon Joe would be a great asset to the eavy metal team.

I would of said that Shawn is right before making this my job but painting little men to pay my bills hasn\'t dulled my infliction of minis but made it stronger

Klaus is right- I paintlike 10 hours aday ,and prefer working for myslef, rather than paint crap LOTR minis for GW :p Was considering to apply for the job, though as far as I know the financial terms aren\'t this good - so I\'ll stay with my Leprechaun :) Now we are even a registered company employing 10 people :p With an office - sorry but NO GW :p

they don\'t get paid as badly as you think, but not as much as you would like.

they also get a say in the colour composition of the projects at the start.

fil and a couple of others were quite nice on warseer when explaining things to people.
(still wouldn\'t tell people the actual amount they got paid tho)
all the best to whoever gets it, and hope they don\'t burn themselves out:)

They still don\'t exactly do brilliantly for cash from what I know. Better than they used to, but hardly the sort of wage that can support any kind of family or home ownership I don\'t think.

Working for \'Eavy Metal is a very good stepping stone before moving on to bigger and better things though, not a lifetime career. You get to be in the studio, learn all sorts of painting skills, meet lots of important other folk at GW, and lots of the \'Eavy Metal chaps move on to be sculptors which pays a bit better.

Three rank and file minis a day, to very high standards is the expected output I think, so you do need to be both good and speedy. I couldn\'t do it in a million years!

come on peeps! you get to work with me!:D
but seriously, i\'m suprised at the negative attitude towards painting in the \'eavy metal team!
you can support a family on the wage, a few of us do and you can afford a home again a few of us do.
but when i joined my first question was never \"how much is the pay?\"
in my opinion it\'s a great job in a fantastic enviroment with an amazing bunch of people to work with.
Yes, you have deadlines and sometimes they are demanding but you get to paint all the great new stuff and have an input into the way products are shown.
as for making your hobby your job, none of us have had our hobby damaged by painting all day, if anything you get into it more being around the studio!
And yes you can move onto other things from eavy metal, 4 painters have gone on to figure design over the last 7 years and they are doing very well! the art department is also a good place to look at. so the prospects are very good if you want them enough.
i\'m very happy with my job and i get a lot of pride and job satisfaction at the end of the day.
i may see you soon! Daz

(where\'s fil?)

The reason I wouldn\'t want to work on the Eavy Metal team is first and foremost that I like about 10% of the minis GW has released the last years. Second, I don\'t like painting on deadline (although I think that\'s something I would get used to if I did have it as a full time job). Third, I\'m pretty sure I get better paid doing what I do now! :D

I\'m sure the team is great and the creative atmosphere is inspiring, and that\'s actually something I miss in my life having no friends nearby that are into the hobby. But, I would not be suited for this job, plain and simple, and I know that.

dont worry im here Daz, you missed me, i aint seen you in ages.
i second everything daz said about the spirit and the hobby. but be warned, whoever applies for the job is going to need some sort of rib support because you really will be busting em all day every day. the Eavy Metal team is a fantastic place to work. the atmosphere is fantastic and the peeps are even better.

Hey guys I was waiting for you as well.

Seriously though, going from commission painting on my own to working on the team did wonders for my painting skillz. I don\'t think there\'s a better place to learn and grow as a painter, and the design studio is definately a pretty inspiring place to work.

As for killing the hobby...well, I can see what some of you are saying, but I just feel that I get to do my hobby every day for 8 hours, still have weekends and evenings off, paid vacation and all that, and get a steady income from it!

So yeah, it\'s all good :D
