I remember watching the news on TV.. that insane beep beep drove me crazy. Also I remember most of the adults around being mad because the US wasn\'t first in space.

Was that all it did then? Just go beep beep beep beeeeeep? I know it was the first man made satelite but they could have made it do something more interesting.

Hey for the 50\'s getting it to beep in space was an accomplishment -

The point was to be able to get the thing into space and be able to signal back. To be first in space that\'s all they needed it to do.

Some nice beeps for sure; but if I were to ask my friend who is into elctronic music (amongst others) and his collection of 1000+ CDs, he\'ll be able to come up with loads of other beeps.

This thing beeps for decades and my AM stations still zap out when I go under an overpass.
