Too much information....

Ok, not what you think, but does anyone else find that once they have a signifcant quantity of miniatures, it becomes harder and harder to decide what to paint next because you have so many cool figs crying out for attention that you can\'t decide what to do first and you end up painting none of them? And what do you do to break the cycle if you get this situation? I\'ve found that entering online competitions helps a bit- I\'ve usually got something on the shelves that\'s suitable, and at least it gets painted then! The worst part about competitions is that I\'m often tempted to buy MORE minis for them. It\'s a tricky situation!

Join the club, love. Join the club.
It\'s an aspect of Figmentia.

I got round that scenario a little while ago buy listing the last 20 figures I bought, numbering them and using a D20 to decide what to paint.
Helped to put me \"back on track\" for a little while.

I paint my thumb.
I feel your pain, and I can help you. Too many painter have too many miniatures to paint. That\'s why I founded the M.A.C (Mini adoption center.)
You just complete a simple form... and send them to me :D
The fees are minimal too.

That\'s why I started doing the WaMP (ebay) comps in the first place. At least it gives you a theme so your choices of what to paint next are done for you. It\'s not a serious comp in any way but it get me moving.

@Dragonsreach: That\'s a really good idea! Is there anything in life that can\'t be solved by a d20? If there is, I don\'t wanna know about it! :D

@Greenone: That\'s very big of you! lol

@lizcam: I should really head on over. First, I need to remember my login details. :(

\"Hi, I\'m Shawn\" (crowd responds in monotone) \"Hi Shawn\".........(little AA humor there)

Ebay can get things moving.
Don\'t try to decide which one, just grab one and DO IT.
Don\'t go to any GS\'s

PM Eldintux here and he\'ll sort it out for you. He\'s really good at that.

When in doubt..... Avengers ASSEMBLE!

If I\'m in a rut and can\'t decide what to paint I whip out some of my stuff in a box and start assembling. Two things will happen...

-I\'ll assemble figs and start basing them. Great!
-I\'ll get sick of assembling and find inspiration to paint something/anything that I have ready to go!

That way I\'m not wasting my precious time by doing nothing mini related. What I find the WORST things to do when trying to get kickstarted into a painting mood...

-Surf the internet looking for inspiration. Does this ever work? I usually just wind up wasting time I could be painting looking at painted figs, or even worse, just buying more figs online. Either way that is NOT a solution.
-Start cleaning the work area. This is not a waste of time I suppose but often it means I spend 2-3 hrs barely making a dent in the cleaning things and nothing gets paint.

Anyone else got uplifting stories of \"Inspiration in Small Measures: How I keep the mini\'s moving?\"

I think that\'s an awesome title for a book I\'ll never write by the way.

usually i have five minis to paint all at one time, that way you dont get bored with a miniature, when you are you just switch!

Who says having alot at one time is bad? just prime them and PAAAINT!!! The part that wanna make me sick is putting the minis together, that and finishing... But nevertheless its never a bad thing having 20 minis spare the next time you order lol

Right now i started kain the scource together with my vicar, centurus, ejin nad some GW miniatures. Dont decide, just paint! :D

Edit: just looked over shawns comment, we share the same philosophy!

I\'ve got a backlog of about 600 minis and it\'s growing. Trouble is I see somethging and buy it for an army (all still boxed/blistered) or to enter a comp. The comp ones get done while the shelves just groan under the weight of the rest. Sometimes I do get a kick start like my challenge with Springbok for a warwalker. Planned to make one years ago for an army and write up some rules. Now it\'s finally being built and I\'m having so much fun. Then I\'ll need to finish the army...

For online buyers, what you may do is make a wish list on the sites where you shop, and then put the minis there instead of adding to cart.. Kinda soothes the \"I need to get that\" feeling and it\'s a lot less costly.
I don\'t have that many minis waiting to get painted, but I do have a verrrrry big wishlist.

My trouble is that if I have several minis on the go, then get distracted (which happens all to easily!), then the minis end up stuck half-painted and I move onto other ideas.

@Waghorn: Yup, my backlog is of comparable size to yours, I think. I was keeping a spreadsheet, but I haven\'t updated it in a little while, and in the meantime I bought minis for a sizeable Bretonnian army from various sources, plus other random odds and sods.

@Scott: I\'m a bit compulsive in that I have to open whatever I\'ve bought straight away and assemble/clean it up asap. There\'s usually some fondling involved there too. Then it sits on the shelf looking at me reproachfully for the next three years! lol

When I left GW (I used to be a red shirt...a million years ago), I had three of the BIG mail order boxes full of lead. I carried on buying.

Now I have a child and a very limited amount of toy soldier money (plus limited storage). So all the bare metal, half finished projects etc got stripped and ebayed. I only have time to paint stuff for commisions and Golden Demons.

I have to REALLY want something before I buy it, hence:

Nice knight Donga! Please tell me that\'s the studio photo, I need some hope! If it\'s your work, then it\'s beautiful!

At the moment, I\'m lucky(?) enough to effectively have a \"single\" lifestyle. I do have a boyfriend, but given we live in different countries, I\'m free to do whatever I want (within reason, of course!). Most of the time, I think I\'d rather see James instead of painting, given the choice! I just get frustrated that I have so much time to paint right now, which I may not have in the future, and then I piss it away through indecision. At least it looks like it\'s not just me!
