Total War: Warhammer

The announcement trailer was released about a month ago for the merging of two of my favorite things. Let me explain for those that are unfamiliar...

Total War is a franchise of games put out by Sega and Creative Assembly. It started with Shogun in the late 90s but since has been set in Rome, Medeival, Empire (late 1700s), Napoleon, Attila, Rome 2, Medeival 2, etc etc. These are real time strategy games but also turn based. So you make administrative, strategical, logistical and developmental moves turn by turn, but when battles are fought it occurs in real-time (though a pause key may and should be employed to really direct your army). You may zoom in to see the whites of the eyes of your soldiers, or you can zoom out for the big picture. Anyway, the game uses historically accurate units who fight in the manner you would expect for the time and type of unit. I can't think of a way to make re-enacting a battle more real. In fact, the history channel has used the engine to show how ancient battles were fought. Very cool, and for anyone interested in mitary history from any time, this game is as accurate as they come.

Well, last month it was announced that they've been making a Warhammer version of the game, and it's been in development now for going on three years. They've never touched fantasy games, and they will be using Dragons and other type aerial mounts for the first time. Not really ever playing Warhammer, I always wished that it was available in a Total War type of gameplay, which is even more real than Warhammer rules. My brain exploded when I saw the trailer.

The trailer makes the game look pretty cool. Maybe this will bring some much needed revenue into GW.

I think the Warhammer Fantasy armies will make a really great video game.

If you've ever played Total War, you'll know just how incredibly epic this will be. I've had to change my underpants twice today just from thinking about it :(

ive played a lot total war, best game EVER. when i saw this is to be released, i promised myself its never never ever coming into my house though. it would be goodbye sparetime, painting time, social life, etc etc. avoid like plague! ;)

I'm happy you can back me up on this Skel. The realism and level of detail in battles is just so real it's unreal. The idea is basically the same as in combat waged since the beginning of mankind; fix the enemy so you can maneuver and flank. Nothing better than a heavy cavalry charge against the rear of an unsuspecting block of infantry.

I think ink you are correct though. Would mean the end of my marriage. Is it wrong that I am still considering this? :)

This isn't just any game. If you wanted to see how you would fair as the general at Waterloo, or Hastings, this is about as real as one could ever imagine. But I see your point, nonetheless.
