Totally new style for me...

Alright... I am concerned about this piece and the rating it is going to get. It simply is so different than my usual painting style. I can\'t decide if it is one of my best or one of my worst. I think that as an army standard it should make a fantastic looking army.

Here\'s the mini

Objectives of this piece-
-Prototype for my up and coming Crusades themed Bretonnian army
-Realism/Naturalism
-Dark and Gritty
-Subtle blends and extremely limited color palette
-Very plain, (I just hope this doesn\'t burn my scores tooo much) only major detailing on this army is going to be the crosses. I am simply sick of these \"elaborate\" Bretonnian armies... Regardless of the fluff of the army.
-Help inspire a directional change away from the ridiculously cartoony miniatures.

The ripples in his back look flat. (Bottom left pic) They don\'t have the depth of the rest of the fig. Also, I can\'t see any face detail at all from the chosen pictures. Finally, a black background may not be the best as the figure is dark to begin with.

On the other hand, as an overall it is quite well done and realistic. The flesh of the hand is perfect and the base gives it the color to pop.

This is a tough one...Techinically it is very good, and I think met your objectives.

Artistically, it is a bit plain. But realism being your goal, I think you did well.

I think a whole army of these could look dangerous, realistic and deadly, like a proper army should.

Kudos for challenging the \'status quo\'.

looks good for an army standard.
the picture is a bit dark tho and i think this will harm the score.

i do prefer medieval looking bretonians to the look at me on a catwalk style you tend to see.

I like it a lot. Especially since I\'ve always had it in my head to do a more gritty and realistic style bretonnian army. An 8 From me. As has been said, while this is not an eyecatching model, it definately meets all of your objectives. Great job

I think you have achieved your objectives as this is a perfectly adequate tabletop piece to grace your army.

As a trend setter away from the \"cartoon\" style I think you are too late. The average wargamer can already paint as well as that, but miniature artists (as opposed to gamers) will be unimpressed. Even as a realist piece, a style by the way which is well established, it leaves a lot to be desired as there are missed opportunities for more shadng, highlighting and weathering without falling into the Disneyland trap. And as for the cross on the shield, at least make it straight.

I have looked at the stuff on your website and you are good. This new venture will not enhance your reputation. You might sell more wargaming figures though as presumably you can turn out your new stuff more quickly, but does this really satisfy you as an artist? I doubt it.

Now, im not an outstanding painter, and havnt been on the scene long, at all.

But i must say, I really like the style your Bretonnians. They will make quite the appearance on a battlefield.

I would also like to say, it is something to paint one style, but to move on, and try a new style, is something else. A full army of these rude MF\'s is an accomplishment, no doubt.

Really nice. I\'d like to see one of the knights painted up to get a better idea of what the army will look like on the tabletop.

Well I like it myself. I perfer the less polished look that is prevalent in miniatures these days. I would also say that as basic R&F these would be stunning. I would think though that you might want your Lords looking a little nicer. Remember your basic pickmen/archers would not be as fancy looking as a Lord or Lady.

Voted btw. :D
