Tournament rules... about minis

I\'ve reasonatly developed an interrest for other companies miniatures, but from my point of view, there aren\'t many good companies out there... BUT! This is not a thread about that! So let\'s fly away from that real quick ;)

What I wanted to ask, was how the rules stand in tournaments. I know if I go to a GW tournament, all minis are supposesed to be GW made... but

Would it be allowed to take a mini from another company and add GW bits, eg. convert that mini? Could that mini be used then?

Just look at this:

Could be an awesome Spacemarine commander or lib.

Just saying, that there are loads of minis out there to compensate, does other companies/tournaments have these rules?

((PLEASE! Do not turn this thread into a GW bashing thread... or I will have it closed so fast...))

EG. Actually, if I wanted, I could take; Shields, weapons and other bits and use, but I can\'t use eg. a horse and put a GW rider on it ? Just stumpled upon this beaut! Awesome for a Bret, Empire.. even elves or chaos?!

Don\'t know. all I know is that I will have the largest non tournament legal Empire Army in Austin when I\'m finished with mine - most of it will be foundry figures.:D

I say it should be allowed... combining other minis to the games we play should be allowed in the interrest of the hobby... but that would seem like a perfect world :p

Isn\'t there a rule, like 60% of the mini has to be GW? Just something I heard once, but knowing GW, it\'s wrong... :(

this is in case of scratchbuilding but parts of other companies are not allowed

So if you scratchbuild a mini, 60% has to be items from GW ? So a fully scratch build dragon, only using the wings (schibor\'s woodelf dragon eg.) would be disqualified ?

The other thing to remember is that these rule would prolly only hold true in official GW sanctioned events - other tournaments may have other rules.

the same is with rackhams tournaments.
you use rackham models only.

that is why the warhammer players society has done so well.
they put on tournaments and have no restriction on companies used.
the only restriction is what you see is what you get, so that people can look at your army and know what the units are.

Exactly, old rule... if your model has a bolter, he has a bolter... if he has a sword and no sheathe for a gun, he only has a sword... simple as that...

But I see, Rackham does the same... Good to know it\'s not isolated to GW.

I just wish we were allowed to mix, at least a bit!

I\'ve run house games where we let anything by anyone on the table - its only at the company sponsered shows that I\'ve seen a use ours or dont play attitude.

Makes sense if you think about it

I do see the sense in it, deffinatly, also in competitions like Golden Daemon, I understand.

Guess I\'ll just get some minis for when I play with buddies and some for comps :p

my plan
(getting to a reality is a long way off)
is to have my basic GW army.
If I play in a GW-sponsored tourney, I will just have the basic army with no frills. I\'ll most likely ge hosed.
Then in any non-GW tourney I can include my non-GW minis.
Mostly this means characters. I have 1 GW High Elf mage, but many other character types from other companies cause they are cooler.

Agreed.. there are definatly some really nice minis out there that can be used as characters, that are alot nicer than GW\'s.

Btw, Vince! Reply to my PM ? :D ty

Since GW , Rackham and any other Company Tournament will be an adjunct to the sales of that particular company the answer will be a resounding:
\"Not on your nelly!\"

However open tournaments run by stores or gaming clubs will be a lot more open minded and should welcome Open Source minatures as long as they are converted to WYSIWYG.

Personally I have no problem playing against an open sourced miniature as long as it matched the style and feel of the army.

Personally I wouldn\'t even hold someone to WYSIWYG - provided you tell me ahead what is substituted for what and your substitution is consistent. If you have a mounted guy with a lance and you don\'t say anything, then you say during your shooting round \"oh, that guy has a bow\" I could get annoyed. Instead, if at the beginning of the game you say \"all my mounted guys have bows\" that\'s fine with me even if the minis don\'t actually have bows. (some have some don\'t, and the minis are all the same does not work for me though)
