Tracer Fire

I was wondering if there has ever been much success with miniature art, and adding live fire, such as tracers, lazers, rockets, etc... I\'ve definitly seen rocket fire and such, but I don\'t think i\'ve ever been totally WOW\'ed! and I\'ve seen a bunch of Shawns OSL gun fire, which is very good... But I\'m thinking more along the lines of heavy amounts of unfire... maybe a dioramma of bullets flying over some Imperial guardsmen or something similiar exists... and I just havent found it

Gotta be careful with tracers, they do a wonderful job of showing you where your bullets are going, but they also show the enemy where they are coming from.

I saw a piece at GD UK this year a guy had (at least) 1 guardsman shooting looked like a red rod of threat.Looked very realistic.

I saw a diorama at GD 2005 which had green tracers, it looked like thin rods of translucent acrylic plastic. Prety effective :)

Nice dio. Only problem with those lasers is that... lasers are invisible except in heavy fog or mist :( I\'m not even sure how you could do tracers realistically, they\'d be spaced quite far apart (tens of feet) unless your weapon had a ridiculous rate of fire, or every round was tracer, which is not practical.

Also:
Tracers can never be a totally reliable indicator of a gunner\'s aim since all tracer rounds have different aerodynamics and even weight from ordinary rounds. Over long ranges the stream of tracer rounds and the stream of ordinary rounds will diverge radically, especially given that a tracer bullet\'s mass decreases over time because the tracer material in its base burns and vaporizes.

That\'s not strictly true, you can buy targeting laser\'s that shoot a green laser beam out that can be seen slightly in daylight, but in darkness you can see the full beam clearly.

As for tracer rounds is usually one trace for every 60 rounds fired.

If you were going to do laser fire you would need to get the OSL right otherwise you would loose the effect, and it would look like they go a big stick stuck up the nozzle of their guns.

How about - rather than showing the actual rounds - show the ricochets and hits...?

Ie. For the marsh dio, you could add loads of splashes.

In an urban environment, you could show the walls being hit with small bits of cotton wool...

Etc etc

Yes that is another option... I\'m trying to figure out how to make the hit\\splash on walls look realistic... Little smoke puffs coming off the 2 second old hits, and splatter coming off the occuring hits.
