Traveling and Iron Painter...

I\'d really like to participate in the Iron Painter this go. The thing is that I\'m going to be going out of town on business during the first round of the comp for one solid week. Naturally, I won\'t be able to finish the job in just the one remaining week without mortgaging my family and other such time-consuming tasks, like breathing.

So here\'s the question that will determine my ability to participate: Can I take my paint stuff with me on the plane? Sounds like a dumb question I\'m sure but I\'ve never tried to travel with my stuff and I\'m not sure what\'s allowed these days and what isn\'t in a carryon. I\'m assuming no hobby knife, but what about files, etc.? Someone help me with a travel list.

Yes, you just have to pack your paints in your luggage. I do it all the time. I make sure all the lids are tight and I put them in zip loc bags in a plastic box.

As for things like X-actos. I remove the blades and pack a few blades in my shaving kit and put the handel elsewhere.

I also have a small place matt I bring with to put down in hotels or my moms house when I go home to see family.

Never had a problem.

Your models you may pack and carry on the plane in your carry on bag which I would reccomend. Id also carry your brushes with you on the plane in a small box.

Given the current laws for hand baggage you will have to put your painting stuff in with your main luggage that goes in the hold but so long as there is nothing like batteries in it then it shouldn\'t be a problem.

The RAF follow the same rules these days and I flew home from the Falklands in January with a full painting set including scalples etc in my hold luggage.

I think that turbulence would make it very difficult to paint on the plane. It could be done, but I can\'t believe that the results would be up to any kind of competition standard.

lol sage advice to be sure, but I was thinking more in terms of painting at the hotel. I just wanted to carry my stuff on as I have little doubt that it\'ll be man-handled by the baggage handlers and that seems like a recipe for disaster with paint pots.

i travel with my paints all the time...
the p3 and gw paints fit perfectly into the slots in the gw fig. case...
i put my case in my checked luggage, and take my finished minis and wips as carry-on with me in my sabol army case...
it\'s hard to hurt paint and tools in baggage, but i have bad luck with painted minis in checked luggage...
happy travels...

cheers
jah

On a serious note, I don\'t think that the airlines will let you bring spray cans on a flight. The air pressure changes, as I understand it, would make them explode, or at least be at risk of exploding.

So, if you\'re a spray primer, you\'ll have to do that, at least, beforehand.
