Tristan's WIP

Having not utilized my old WIP, Shakes's 2011 WIP, in what may be approaching years, I decided to start fresh. I don't have much time to paint, but I'm hoping to do more than I have been in recent years! The goal is to paint and post at least 1 day a week. With this in mind, I cleared all of my models away into the closet and reorganized my painting space. I'm hoping that by keeping 1 project on my desk at a time I may make more head way. First project is 5 smurfs with boltguns. I painted the first one yesterday. I think it may be the first time in a decade that I painted a model in 1 sitting. Admittedly, I haven't done the squad/chapter markings yet or the base, but I'm pretty pleased. I snapped a quick photo near the end. Still a few things to be done!

That's a nice looking Space Marine for a single sitting.

I'm looking forward to watching that desk get slowly buried in painting gear!

Added some weathering to the first marine and got started on #2. Trying to decide wether to go the decal or free hand route. I usually free hand everything, but I'm not generally trying to paint a whole squad.

And then there were two. I decided to go the decal route, but I'll be shading and weathering them a little bit to make them look more natural. I think it's the first time I've used a decal since I was a kid. I picked up some decal fix and decal medium from Vallejo as I knew putting decals onto a curved surface was going to suck. They definitely help, but didn't do as much as I hoped. In desperation I turned to a size 0 taper point clay shaper to finish setting the decals when they were nearly dry. I had no idea how it was going to work, but it ended up being perfect. No air bubbles!
