Trouble with Leopards..

Good Morning to you all..

As an occassional poster and lurker.. I was wondering if the great and good, if they aren\'t about.. anyone will do :) would be able to help me?

I\'ve got problems with my big cats, Leopard skins in particular.. I normal do the \'paint it yellow and wash it with orange\' trick.. but it always looks a bit... well... rubbish!! So if anyone has any \'hot tricks\' to make it look a bit more feline.. please can you pass then on :)

\'Hello! I certain am not the great or the good, but I can try and make a suggestion. Have you spent any time looking at pictures of real leopards? If you do, you\'ll notice that they\'re not really yellow or orange- more of a pale sandy colour, in fact.

Maybe try starting with a beige colour mixed with a bit of yellow? And to shade, maybe a light brown mixed with a bit of a more orangey yellow.

I\'ve got a big lion I want to paint, so this is the kind of method I\'m going to use. Hope it helps.

If I recall correctly...there is a nice tutorial in one of the GW painting books...its for painting a leopard skin..but I\'d think it would be the same...I\'ll see if I can dig it up.

But..I would think that the colors you are using may be a bit bright for a leopard. I\'d start with a golden brown base (maybe GW\'s Snakebite leather), faded into a white underbelly. Then use something like GW leporous brown (very goldeny brown) and do several thin washes towards the sides, where the white and browns meet...

And look at pictures of Leopards!

Thank you.. I shall have a look at a few leopards, Actually I\'ve got a few tickets to the local zoo, I might take a few close up pics when I\'m there.. but not too close up mind you... :)

I don\'t think I need any pics of inside a leopards mouth :)

)This is something I struggle with myself, so thasnks for bringing it up and thanks to vikey for the tip! I will watch this thread, and if you get round to having a go at it be sure to post some pics (providing the leapord digests your camere in one piecelol

Juts PLEASE God, once you get the knack- DON\'T have use it on clothing!

Leopard skin ONLY looks good on leopards! Same with zebras!

Leopard print never looked good in the 80\'s and it sure as Hell ain\'t gonna look any better now ;) lol

I agree.. just a shame those Fantasy guys, don\'t think the same :)


I\'d sure be interested in finding a good way of painting the oversized moggy... That\'s if I\'ve got any arms left to paint with :)

Having recently struggled with painting tiger skin (on a whim :no: ) I know what you\'re going through. My only advice is to start with a reddy brown and blend up to something like desert yellow for the main part (bleached bone/white for the underneath). Then the really tricky bit is getting the spots to look realistic!

You should come to Cardiff (UK) - there\'s a taxi which has it as seat covering!!!
