Troubles with colors for parchment and white cloth.

So, I\'m starting a Daemonhunters army along with my Greenskins. And painting all those tabards, purity seals and parchment bits is really hard, not knowing of any good mixes to paint them with.
Can you please post your favorite technique of painting parchment, white cloth and such ? :innocent:

And by the way, have you got any good tips for \"liturgy\" It\'s pretty annoying painting it.

White Cloth

I can\'t be any help with parchment, as I\'ve never done it. Besides, it would also depend on what the parcement is like. Some pieces have letting engraved so all you have to do to have that detail is use a dark wash after painting it white or ivory. On others, you have to do free hand, and that is well beyond the advice I could give.

For white cloth, I like to start with a gray base and layer up to white highlights. Dragonsreach tried, in vain, to teach me another technique.

There is also an article in a fairly recent White Dwarf article about painting Gandalf the White. That artist started with a brown base and layered up to white. Maybe you can find it, and it would help you.

I usually go with a 50/50 mix basecoat of Skull White/Bleached Bone....use a really thin wash using flesh wash and magic wash..then highlight with the SW/BB up to pure skull white.

for parchment i tend to use browny whites. something like 50/50 snakebite leather and white and highlight up to white. that gives a pretty aged look. as for white cloths, try using a grey or blue as a base colour.

i\'m not very good at free hand so i just add squiggles for the writing with the occasional aquilla/inquisition symbol/cross just to make it look more interesting. take a look at tammy haye\'s inquisition stuff for ideas as hers was actually used by gw and is an excellent example of scrollwork

Yeah, I use brownish whites, starting with snakebite for parchment. As for cloth, It realy depends on what you are going for. You can shade it with gray, blue, or brown and acheive very good, although very different, effects. I want to try some with a purple shade, but alas, nothing on my painting schedule will allow that for the next month or so at the least.:flip::bouncy:

I tried a Snakebite base plus White for parchment, really liked the results.. thanks all. And i\'ll be doing brownish tabards and stuff, so I think i\'ll just have to find a color for those
