True or not: Researcher claims he can make ppl invisible

I thought this might be an interesting topic, as I am a bit of a paranormal/super science buff.

Today at lunch with colleagues we talked about sci-fi tech. Someone mentioned an invisi suit invented by a japanese researcher. Check it out..... camera trick or the real deal?

That\'s really old news. came out sometime early 2003 I think. It\'s a camera on the back that takes video of what\'s going on behind, and a projector in front of the user projecting on to the coat. So not really an invisibility cloak but more of a specially designed projection screen you can wear. I think the original link was on New Scientist.

hmmmm really? Dang I just heard of it today from someone.... we all thot the guy was pulling all of our legs..... so I asked him for the article.....

however, I wonder if using a camera one might be able to pull off a trick of this effect .... through double exposure and etc... that sorta thing

I suppose the projection idea is possible, but I am confident this is a fake photo.

Notice the bicyclist is not visible through the sleeve. In fact you can see bushes where the cyclist should be. Further, there is a small car in the background on what appears to be a pedestrian walkway. If it continues where it\'s going it will hit the stairs. I say small because it is not to scale with the car visible on the left of the picture.
The straight line under his right arm might be attached to the coat but if not it looks like a seam line in the concrete which doesn\'t continue straight behind him though a curvy line on his coat could be there to represent it, but it suddenly ends when it reaches the person. Finally, the shadows of the men walking away are at different angles from the shadows not on the coat.

Actually, looking at his face I think maybe it is a projection as his face seems to reflect some odd lighting. However, it is not a projection of what is currently behind him.

Ever see Mystery Men?
I love the guy who is only invisible when no one is looking at him.

Ahh.. now I remember where I saw it:

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.08/pwr_invisible_pr.html

I think Wired is a fairly reliable source. The picture probably isn\'t faked, just that the projector is a little behind in the stored image.

It\'s probably only really useful as a stage effect, to give the illusion of a slightly translucent \"ghost\" actor.

Invisible?

Turning the guy bright green makes him invisible? Besides, they might want to also invent the zipper because you can see the buttons on all this fluo green.
It is a well known fact that the best invisibility technology is the SEP field. Make people believe that you are Somebody Else\'s Problem and they will consistently fail to see you (From HitchHiker\'s Guide hyperpage 654ag5.4#54kk)

I think they would be better off funnelling money into the SEP field generator research....

Ooopsss... Just read the post above me!!! HAHAH!

I\'ve seen some reports over here that the FBI is experimenting with a similar device for vehicles for use in hostage situations - course they still got to mask the noise and the exhaust, but what the hell, cloaking is on its way, right?

Invisible Suit

I don\'t know if this particular photo is a fake or mock up or not, but This concept is actually real. It was on the discovery channel last summer. It is a project being developed by the military. It is a suit constructed from a fabric mesh of fiber optic threads. There are mini cameras that take video from behind then a micro computer that puts the display on the other side. It is a kind of camouflage they are working on. Although not invisible, it is meant to help objects blend into the backgrounds of stuff. There are a lot of bugs to be worked out as the fabric is fragile and the green glow, etc. It\'s not like looking through a window by any means as the folds and creases in the fabric distort the image. Pretty cool though I think. The intent is to be able to put this on vehicles and stuff. It is like \"chamelion\" camouflage as the camera updates the back ground images in real time.

Though the technology is real, this photo is most certainly a fake......the shadow positions show the projection image was clearly made at a different time of day to the background.

I seriously think if it were real or even remotely useable, in say a stealth suit, we the general public would know nothing about it.

Ya this has been around for awhile. I think that the easiest way to hide in public though is to stand out as much as possible, that way they forget you two seconds after they see you and your just a punchline in a joke.
