Well here it is. Oddly enough, I think the whole middle took less time than the checkers.

Now on to the back (naked brass probably), then it's leather, a sword blade, and a scabbard.

Very nice. I always end up with too thick of paint when I try this. Probably because it dries faster than i work. Who's retarder is Slo Dry?

Krule - I got it today at Michaels. It's Liquitex brand. Smallest bottle they had was 120ml haha. I told an old GW paint bottle, cleaned it out, and put just enough of the retarder in to cover the bottom. Then I filled it with water, and used that with the paint to thin it on the wet palette. It still dries quickly, but not so quickly that I can't even get the brush on to the mini. I could probably even use a little more retarder, as I had to move quickly.

Thanks-I should be able to get that at Hobby Lobby. I have been using a bit of Winsor and Newton retarder, but have my same drying problems. Might need to use at higher concentration than suggested on the bottle with flow improver.

Well here's the last pics before I take the good ones and submit her tomorrow. A few new things going on - freehand on the shield, NMM on the blade (not that NMM is new to me, just blades).
If photobucket axes one (or more?) of the pics, not to worry. The final image will be hosted here on CMON and free of those pesky prudes.

Hey Trystan,

this is one of the best pieces by Hasselfree, and I reckon you've really done it justice :)
That shield is truly awesome!

Congratulations.

Thanks guys. Still waiting for the voting link to go live, even though I see a few of you voted early ;)

GW is killing me - I don't have the time, space, or inclination to play their large scale games, and their prices are on the high side of the hobby. But these last few releases have been outstanding. So I seem to have found a compromise. I have friends who still buy and play the game, so I just "suggest" minis they should get, and then I paint them. That way I don't have to fork over money I'd rather spend on KD or CMON, and I don't have to decide what I'm going to do with all these GW minis I don't use.

For instance, one of my friends just picked up the Dark Vengeance box. As soon as I saw it, I told him I HAD to paint that Chaos dread. And while I was at it, I'd do the Chaos characters too. He brought the sprues in, and I think I'm just going to do the chosen ones and cultists that are on it too. They really are nice sculpts.

Hopefully I can convince my other friend to follow thru with his plan to pick up some FW pre-Heresy stuff ;)

Pics later - I just got the dread assembled and prepped and pinned.

Last few releases.... Ill agree with you that the chosen and the lord in the dark vengeance set are awesome, the dreadnought is pretty bad i think.

The new chaos models are just so bad on so many levels. The big monster is up there with nagash as the worst model ever.
