yeah, next time save yourself the trouble and just do gold NMM from the brown. It'll take you like a 1//4 of the time ;)

You guys.....:curse!:

So I needed a break from all that yellow, but I'm still very much in a Sedition Wars mood. So I looked around to see what was primed, and found Hexen's alter ego.
I had avoided her originally because the Strain tend to be very fiddly, and with the scale of this sculpt I just wasn't in the mood. But I decided to give it a go.

She was primed white, so I gave the figure a good wash of GW Nuln Oil to help pick out all the various details.
Then I started with P3 Midlund Flesh over the skin. The a little P3 Flesh Wash in the recesses, followed by touching up again with Midlund.
Then I went in with Vallejo Basic Skintone on the higher areas. Then I took a little pure white and added it to the tops of the shoulders, the facial features, and a few other spots.
With the skin looking pretty good, I went ahead and based the dress in P3 Sanguine Base. You all have seen my reds enough to know where THAT is going.
I'm not sure how to approach all the little spots on her body. I don't want to leave them just a black wash, but it'll be hard to do too much with them on account of their size.
Another interesting thing was having to do all the skin without my beloved Glaze Medium - usually I layer on highlights with it, but I didn't want to risk the thinned paint getting into all those crevices. Luckily A) she's tiny and B) I'm not going for a trophy.

The spots, try maybe glazing them or just running a damp brush over them with some thinned gold or other metallic to kind of tint the spots with a hint of metal. Might look cool. If you use some purple too you might get a polarized lens/ canopy type effect. At least that way you won;t have to worry about the recesses and high point in terms of scale.

I'm all over the place, as usual. Trying to finish up a bunch of the low hanging fruit.
Today was Darkrasp, the man with the blingin staff.
NMM blades still intimidate me. I'll NMM armor all day, but I see a sword blade and I balk. Something about the large flat surfaces.

Finished another Bones tonight - Isabeau Laroche.

Still not really happy with the blade, but it was getting to the point that I was spending more time on that than I had on the rest of the mini. And that was defeating the whole point of these Bones. So I called it done and will try again on the next.

Haha not really - she was done except for glove, sword and red on shield before I picked her up last night. I am, however learning to be quicker on some things.

Everything looks really nice. And while the blade might not be perfect, its still very well done. The armor is excellent. I would love to see some sort of design or emblem on the shield, but perhaps that is just me.

@bailey - yeah, I thought about freehand on the shield, and on the cloak. But the shield already had the decorations around the edges, and I was ready to move on from this one. Especially given my frustrations with the blade.

Anyways, time for some non-humans.
I wanted to stay away from the cartoony bright green you usually see with orcs, so I looked at a few references in the gallery here and just kind of went with it.
A bit concerned that the contrast isn't strong enough on the skin (outside the face), but I will wait until more of the figure is painted before making that decision.

Ooh, if you are going to go with green the dark version is awesome by me. I think the contrast may be enough once you get the rest of him done. If you want more of a spark maybe some bright eyes or some face paint.

Looks like holding off on the skin was the right decision. It works much better with the colors around it.

The hides are the same basic recipe I used on Darkrasp, and the fur is just P3 Ironhull Grey basecoat, liberal application of GW Nuln Oil, then re-apply Ironhull via drybrushing. Follow that with GW Codex Grey and GW Ulthuan Grey in smaller areas as a drybrush too.

The black is an undercoating for dull metal.
The sleeves of his shirt will be red, the epaulets will be leather trimmed in gold, and the axe and shield will bring up the rear.

Great looking mini, I will always love these 'cartoon' style minis over the more serious designs. It must be to do with my Heroquest days back in the 80's.

Lovely miniatures you got going here! That orc is coming along well, like you say, the green skin is really working well with the dark leather/armor bits around it!

True - I was casting around in my box of Bones for another quick paint, and this guy with his shield of severed hands bullied me into painting him.
Funny you mention Heroquest - I saw quite a bit of hyperbole over on the Sedition Wars KS comment thread the other day. Guy said that the old Heroquest figures were better quality than the wave 2 figures. I understand being frustrated/disappointed and maybe exaggerating a bit, but that was a real WTF? moment.

[h=3]David Lee Seymour 4 days ago[/h]alas, if I were to stand "Riddick" next to the barbarian from heroquest. Who do you think would get their lilly azz kicked in? "goblin...kill it." it's sad that such an older game far outshines todays "high quality" product

Or

[h=3]Industrial Scribe 6 days ago[/h]I think people should go dig out their 1980's version of hero quest and advanced hero quest... How the hell did they make better stuff for cheaper???
