You and Milosh have nice minis on your shelves of shame/ death. I'm eager to see what you think of the nmm set. Also, is that a phone with built in DVD player? Cause that would be awesome.

Too bad. I am now calling dibs on the patent for a land line phone where you can dock your smart phone/tablet and watch tv/movies - yes I realize no one would buy it and it sounded better in my head - shut up :p

No no no, stick with it. I like the plan. We'll just need to find a wealthy investor to sponsor us and that way we can go an a drug-fueled buddy-trip full of weird and wonderful antics accross the american continent to sell the phones, ending up in Las Vegas. I just need to find the appropriate hat & sunglasses.

And Trys, I'm jealous of your little painting corner. It looks like spacious- and decicated painting hobby goodness to me.

Thanks Meph. It's loads better than the mess I had everything on before. Those drawers on the right are labelled by manufacturer and hold my unpainted minis ;)

Anyways, lots to show you guys.
First up, more work on my base.

Next, some better pictures of the Saviour (who is not done):

Now, I need some honest opinions on Ahnamoth here. I am ready to call him done, but I want a gut check from you guys before I put together a submission photo. Anything that looks off or you just don't like, let me know.

And lastly, I broke out this guy to try out my Scale 75 NMM set. Before I get to pics, a warning: The paint bottles are dropper style, but need to be pierced. If you squeeze them hard enough, they WILL rocket paint across your desk, across your palette, across your monitor, and onto the wall with the nice pristine paint. ><
Anyways, images:

These paints are VERY matte. I was impressed. This is just basecoat (1st) and some shading (2nd).

The savior looks mint. I hope my Fianna turns out that well. I'd like to see more tonal variegation on the rock the bull is standing on like greens or purples (it may be there though the blue BG could be leaching some of the color out of the grey) and the guy in armour looks nice so far (also looks like there are still some areas armor can't protect - what an uncomfortable thing to sit on).

You'd think the paint bottle manufacturers would learn at this point and find some way to put a needle or something in the cap- but then you'd have problems putting it on. Oh, well. The 75mm set looked interesting, but I wondered if there was any difference in me just making my own paints from Valejo- which I do frequently. It just seemed like a "cool grey" set of colors. Well- so far so good!

First, i was hoping to see pics of paint splattered all over!

Second, hate to say this, but it looks like a mold line on the lower left leg of the minotaur through the bandage area.

Haha if I stopped to take pics of the disaster, I never would have gotten the paint off.

And don't worry Krule - you're not seeing things. There's a few of them hiding about. Too late to do much about them I'm afraid.

Actually if it's not too pronounced you could fill it with a few layers of gloss varnish and then touch up the area using your original colors. That trick works well on small nicks and dings that you have missed in the prep phase, but they have to be pretty minor.

@Krule - yeah lol. I should have cropped/resized those pics before putting them up. For Ahnamoth and the Savior both. Don't worry - I won't make that mistake in my submission photos ;)

really like the Saviour! :)

regarding Ahnamoth, one of my favourite minis of all times, i have some issues ;) its not bad but to me it doesnt feel finished. imho the mini lack both highlights and shading well in lots of places. especially skin looks very flat but also the green cloth-things-thingies in his belt. push contrast mate, i know you can! ;)
The red-ish stone icon in his belt is to me off colorwise (& mouldline alert?) some stone color had been better imo. same with the red on the base, it clashes and get too much attention.

Thanks Skel.
I used to have the camera dialed in pretty well for my setup, but looking at these pics I'm going to have to tweak some settings.
There are spots where the skin could use some more work, but overall I feel it's actually a strength (not that you can tell by these photos).
The green on the belt is a bit flat, and one of the reasons I asked for honest feedback is because I wasn't too comfortable with the copper icons.

Ultimately, I'd much rather get this feedback from you guys and revisit problem areas than just post it as is and submit an inferior mini :) And that goes for everything I post up here, not just Ahnamoth. If you guys see something amiss, please speak up.

Here's my artist's rendition of the great paint escape of 2013:

And here's a shot of my 3 main brushes:

Left is the red sable/synthetic blend 2/0 from Michaels
Center is my worn out Isabey Kolinsky 3/0
Right is my brand new 8404 2/0

Not quite there. The Scale 75 paints are a useful tool, but not really a boxed solution to steel nmm. It's not as simple as apply this color, apply this color, and done - despite what the oddly translated instructions would have you believe. The darks don't go dark enough for my taste. The paints definitely need to be thinned, but I thin everything anyways. The armor is starting to really work in spots (like his axe hand), but his chest and helmet need some more contrast. So it'll be back and forth with light and dark glazes until I get the contrast I want.

Spent around 90 minutes on the face. Eyes are yellow with black pupils, really.

Since he was just in primer, you might consider him a new project (shame on me). But since I painted his court back in August of 2012, I'm calling it a continuation of a shelf project. Yay?
Savior is attached to her base, now I just need to flesh it out so I can put the finishing touches on her as well.

Ah, glad to see you working on this guy. Such a cool KD model (though that can be said about quite a few of them). The subtle color variations on the face are really nice. Have you figured out what color scheme you're going to use for his armor?
