Two WIPs (ME 15 mini)

So, I\'ve got two mini projects going on at once now. The first is a reaper chick with a hasslefree dude holding up a book, and a reaper pile of books. I put them back to back like that on a round base so as you turn it, you see the front of each mini. She has a concentrating look, so it\'s like she turned around to study the book in her hand... or something. lol

the second mini is a dark elf by reaper that I received from toxc in ME15. Her sword was pretty twisted out of the package (as swords normally are) and I snapped it trying to straighten it out. So, the sword pictured here is my very first conversion! I added a little webbing with green stuff at the base of the blade to match her outfit. I\'ll probably start painting her tomorrow. :)

I really like the color scheme you\'ve used on Jolie. I\'ve not seen her in these colors before and I think it has the potential to look great. can\'t say much because it doesn\'t look like things are very far along at this point, but some deeper lows and brighter highs would be an improvement to give more depth. The flesh in particular could benefit from some shading.

Neat lil set up with the book worm :) and I\'ll second matt a bit more shading / highlighting would do alot, other then that off to a good start. The lil detail you added to the sword hilt looks nice I would have never known if you hadn\'t pointed it out so good work there, I\'ll be looking forward to updates.

Thank you mattrock! Not sure why I went with the green and off white... I\'m more of a blue and purple girl normally. I think I spend more time staring at the mini deciding how to paint it than I actually spend with a brush in my hand. Definitely need to work on my contrast... I think that\'s my weakest area with painting minis.

Thanks friar! I\'ll work on the highlights and shading tomorrow. Think I\'ll take a peak at other people\'s work on Jolie and maybe get a better feel for the skin tones. :)

Your skintone isn\'t too bad at this point although it always helps to look at work that you admire.

I\'d suggest that you add some purple to your base skin tone and then water it down about 7-10:1. Use it to shade very lightly under the eyebrow ridges, cheek bones and around the hair line. When you do this, you want to load your brush and then wick off all of the paint on a cotton towel or t-shirt similarly to the way you would do if you were drybrushing. You will paint lots of strokes moving towards the darkest areas and in smaller and smaller area per coat. Let each coat dry fully in between the next (which if you have wicked off the paint shouldn\'t be too much of a problem because they will mostly dry in seconds.) You won\'t see much of a difference on the first few coats but recede anyway and the opacity will build up. This is how I did the flesh on my Tara model that you commented on here in the WIP section below.

PM me if you have any questions.

The reason I suggest purple is that it will offset your green well and it is a pretty good color for shading flesh in any case. Incidentally, so is green.

Thanks for the tips mattrock! I\'m going to work on her skin this morning... will post more photos once I get a little further along.

Oh, and I have to apologize... the dark elf was my second conversion. I completely forgot about the munchkin I did over a year ago.

Hey Nicky, I really like the books you are using in the Jolie piece. I went on the reaper site to try to find them and I couldn\'t locate them...can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the answer...I took a look at Jolie and voted, though I didn\'t comment as I did that here :)

Very nice though. I voted a 7 for her.
