This is my first adventure away from fantasy figures and what a journey its been!

I\'m not a gamer and know nothing about this creature. So I approached painting this as if it were being done by a naturalist - like John Audubon - and used the colorings of a type of blue crab as a basis. A far more knowledgable person mentioned that it looks like it evolved from harvested giant crab dna, or it killed a giant crab and after sampling the crab\'s dna with it\'s feeder tendrils, its chameleonic scales where able to mimic the crabs camoflage. This is also my first attempt at adding water to a base.

At the pace at which I paint I would never complete an army, but I wouldn\'t rule out painting more of these sometime soon.

The WIP can be seen here: Lictor WIP

Thanks for looking!

very cool, its nice to see a nid in softer earth tones. His coloring and the base work perfectly together as its not hard to imagine him hiding in that terrain. The only thing im not certain I like is the water, but i can quite pin down why. Other that that extremely nice job.

I think the issue with the water is that it is just too blue for the depth. I can see you were trying to capture the tone of Caribbean sea but right at the shore line the water is not deep enough to give off such a vibrant blue.....you would be getting some of the sand colour coming through.

The mini itself is nicely done and the patterns on the carapace work well. It might be worth experimenting with different backdrops as the blue on the figure is kinda being overcome with the backplate.

Keep up the good work.

The designs on the carapace work really well, nice to look at. Also like the color choice, it definately works.
