I agree there could be a seperate YB judging team, make use of GW staff, or past GD winners. I know many people would be willing to help out judging. Here in Oz the Emperors Chosen (staff GD) is judged by GD winners, works a treat.

I second what Scott said, if we don\'t ask we won\'t get. I know from personnal experience with the Oz GD that GW do listen, especially if you shout loud enough lol

I think your trouble may be that GW are spending a lot of time at the moment trying to standardise GD comps around the world to match the UK event, not vice-versa.

Personally, I think youngbloods should be raised to under 16 rather than 14 as that covers a larger group of GW\'s \'High School\' target market without severely disadvantaging the 12 - 13yr olds.

As others have said... I don\'t think a 17/18yr old is at any dissadvantage in the main categories to everyone else.

I\'ve met 16/17yr olds who can paint MUCH better than I could when I got back into painting at the age of 29. It\'s taken me three years to learn the techniques and improve my painting to the point where I can win a demon in the main categories and I don\'t see why a 15/16yr old can\'t spend three years learning those same techniques and win one at the age of 18.


I doubt GW will add a new category. As I understand it, the Aus GD is very different because of the geographical situation (ie: a handfull of shops seperated by air-travel only distances) and so it is focused more around people winning in their shops and then a few winners going to the compete in the main event.

I personally don\'t think the competition should be split up even more in to age groups, I do however think they should organise regional painting comps as there were at the conflict events again to give people a lower prize to aim for.

I can see that it would be good to extend the age range for the YB category. As others have mentioned, it would be a gentler introduction to GD for new painters that are too old for the current age limit, given when many kids start being interested in modelling. As someone said, it doesn\'t stop them also entering the \"adult\" GD as well if they want.

Sorry Ben; I have to disagree there.
I strongly believe that breaking the competition down to regions will allow \"Favoritism\" originating from stores to creep in. Having judged at a couple of Conflicts I know how some store staff and regulars attempted to \"Push\" specific peoples mini\'s.

GD\'s in the UK were quite strongly accused of favouritism and bias a few years ago, I\'d hate to see that bitter cynicism resurface.

by bias do u mean like it was only people from the uk winning and not people who came over from spain or the us or whatvr? or do u mean that the staff judging the demon would be biased towards their own store? one of my now ex store mmbers judged gd this year, and he didnt go any where near our models. probably:twisted:

Mike, I wasn\'t suggesting the UK demons should have any regional heats like the Aus demons, just that there should be additional painting comps regionally... nothing to do with the demons.

I was just saying that personally, winning at the Conflict South comp back in 2006 was a massive boost to my confidence that in a large part spurred me on to keep improving my painting and keep entering the demons.... just a pitty they stopped doing the conflict events :-(

Here in Canada we\'ve got Warpstone painting contests. The competition in Western Canada is fairly minimal and in the last two events I\'ve been to there\'s been maybe 3-4 entries per category. They\'re typically run alongside larger warhammer tournies, or perhaps as a store painting contest.

Still getting a trophy IS a great way to boost confidence and encourage more effort.
