Well A UK Games days has about 2-3 times the people than a US or Canadian GD

A US GD has more gaming going on. But a UK GD has many more entries to its Golden Demons.

Both have plenty of loud annoying children  and both get pretty stinky after a short while.

As for the old myth of getting in the Demons entry line gets you in early to get a fast go at the retail stand is no longer true. Last year the line moved slow, it was way at the other end of the facility from the retail area and by the time you got in, entered, turned in your piece and walked/ran through the building all the pre release stuff was long gone.

My advice if you really want some good pre release stuff.. get in the main entry line as early as you can....or wait the couple weeks and buy it at your normal retailer.. really its not all that big a deal..to tell you how much a big deal it is..I still have pre release stuff that I bought early 5 years ago..still unpainted..

As soon as they get there. :D

Dragon Forge has nailed the details about the queues. The thing that is getting annoying about the UK GD is the NEC\'s insistance on searching your bags and removing any food or drinks you\'ve purchased outside so that they can rip you off with their extortionate prices.
I\'d really like to see that challenged.
Can you imagine the furor should they try tho remove someone\'s Kosher food or a Diabetic\'s preplanned food supply.............Is there a Lawyer in the house?

AS to the difference between UK and US gamesdays, well there is size of participants. The NEC is capable of holding 12,000 people but for an event like Gamesday they are limited by Fire Regs to 10,000.
The previous venue did have 10,000 at one time but changing regulations meant that it eventually dropped down to 8,000.

As for Golden Deamon Entries well, over the years I\'ve seen it increase so that there have been in excess of 1500 entries per category.

Main queue was let in early last year because of the weather.

Dragonsreach is correct though about the searching it is a real pain and no real justification to it. Do they really think a bunch of sweatie teenagers want to blow the place up???

AinuLainour 2005 was the first year at the NEC as they neded to move to a bigger arena and they had over 8,000 people turn up with tickets, last year they had in excess of that number and they made everybody in the halls sit in the stands for the awards, which rubbed on a lot of people as it meant splitting family and friends etc to try and get everyone seated.

Golden Demons: As has already been said it is the premiair event so the number of entrants is high also it is said that you have not won a Demon unless you have won one in the UK GD consequently whereas in the US or Canada you have mainly people from your own country entering with a smattering of outsiders here in the UK we have to compete with the French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and the other half of Europe as well as a smattering from across the pond.

No I am not objecting, where else would I get to see and meet these people in person instead of just on the net and maybe one day I will go to their GD event and give them a run for their money lollollol

Do they actually open the sales stand and enterance into it before 10 or do they make people who have booked in their miniature in the first hour wait outside that part of the halls ?

Does this apply to food/drink you might bring from home? If it does, that\'s really annoying. I was going to take my own food, I don\'t eat fast food rubbish.

I guess the thing to do then is to leave the NEC at lunchtime, go get something to eat externally, then go back in. Is this possible? And if it is, any suggestions for decent food nearby.

Last year i had my own samwedges they might just stop you from brinking in glasses and things like that, they can\'t search to well my mum got her knitting needles in and i think tha dragonsreach managed to bring his hammer!

As for places nearby i dont think there are any cheap ones, the problem with the nec is that its not really near anywhere but i could be wrong

Unlike some of the other events, well, LA, anyway, from what I\'ve read in these forums, is that the grand tournaments are not held on games day, which is why it\'s one day, not two. The GTs are held separately and consist of three heats and then the final.

What is queue?

:D

Not only do I avoid queues again this year, but I don\'t even have the added downside of being employed by GW, I\'m just a volunteer, so pretty sure I could scamper off and buy whatever early stuff I want instantly. Mwahahaha! Enjoy the wait people!

Now where do I get money to buy things... damn, a flaw in the plan.

Grand Tournaments are completely different events here in the UK and they normally run them two or three times a year around the country and at the GW HQ.
