Was gonna enter in Newport (Wales) and probably am about 75% through, but with hols and work couldn\'t make the deadline. Will finish soon though and post.

Agree though very badly organised. No one seemed to know much until quite near deadline and Newport store you had to bring in on the 28th as they had nowhere to keep them

I have to agree it was badly organised and not passed on to the managers/staff properly.
However there is no real excuse for them as it has been mooted in White Dwarf since Feb, (I think).

But of course it all depends on how many of the managers at local stores are \"Hobbyists\" and not just sales driven Clones.

i agree DR, i expected there to be better organisation as like you said it was publicised in WD a few times. my store is normally pretty good for painting competitions but our turn out was less than for their other painting comps and our store manager has been after filing his cabinet with painters work on a permanent basis. i do know at our regional one at metrocentre they are holding a sort of Q&A sessions so newer painters can pick the brains of the more experienced ones as they asked me to help with it (though god knows why!!)

nice one krom, did you get anything for winning?

I got a very nice Certificate for best squad/regiment :D there was some great paint jobs in there, and one of the chaps is going to enter GD this year.

I think this is a great idea, just seeing all the entries, well done GW, now you dont hear that very often lol

Apparently the only info our manager had WAS the article in White Dwarf. He even got told off for devoting a shelf in the staff cabinet to it.

Really good idea, maybe they\'ll put a bit more thought into it next time

I entered the single figure cat, and won it. I got a set of paintbrushes plus a golden paintbrush.
The best in comp went to some really badly painted Demon regiment.

The judging was a total farce. Staff judged best in category, then they let all the people in the shop vote, and guess how many young kids were in there.

One good thing I was told afterwards was that every adult voted for mine, but there was just one more kid than adult lol

The staff did look disappointed when I said I wasn\'t entering the next one, as I didn\'t want to be judged by a load of little kids.

The overall winner got the Games day Spacemarine.

Is there another round???

This is one of the things that needs to be communicated because nothing has been mentioned about another round.

Exactly the same happened at our store, and there happened to be loads of little kids running around, so of course the big forge world bloodthirster won, rather than any of the well painted minis.. this happened at all the other events aswell.. just very disapointed in the judging choice (although one staff member also complained),

No, sorry if i made it sound that way. It\'s a separate comp. Maybe just a store comp.

The day was actually quite good as one of the locals to the shop is a multi golden demon winner and ex \'eavy metal painter so he was down all day to give pointers and generally teach people. He then helped judge the competition and gave improvement pointers to the winners. So all in all it was a very good day for painting.
