UKGD Winners Booklet

Personally i like the booklet, if not only for the fact that i can look at the booklet in the future without having to flick through a huge pile of White Dwarfs. If i wanted to see what won in 2002, 2003 and 2004 i would take me about 30 seconds to get to them, where as if i want the results for 2001 and earlier i have a stack of WD\'s that i need to go through one by one in order to see the results, which could take hours (i have a lot of WDs)

But hey, each to their own i suppose...

For f***s sake! It\'s a one off payment of £6 that you won\'t have to pay out again until next year! Hardly going to ruin any of you financially is it? Especially considering how much money people chuck at buying figures every month.

£6 for a book of inspiration and excellent reference material? That\'s not much at all, now is it? Good grief, that\'s cheap, people! And now... £6 for something that used to be free and I can find on the internet, right here on CMON, in fact.

Since I\'d probably have bought the WD purely for the GD coverage, I\'d pay an extra £2 for the more expansive coverage in the GD booklet. So it\'s not free anymore, but its value to us is definitely more than £6.

At the moment I\'m talking with GW about getting some free for the winners, so that I can take them to gd Paris and hand them out.

they have been stalling for nearly two weeks over maybe £120 (retail) of product when they make in excess of £100,000,000 bless them.......

You seem to be missing the point entirely. Nobody thus far has said \"I can\'t afford to buy it\" \"I will have to sell my car\" or \"I will have to go without food\".

The point is, it\'s a rip off. They used to give it out free (nice of them). Instead of deciding to charge a reasonable amount, they\'ve decided to overprice it imo.

Like I said at dakka, I will still buy it (and you\'re right, it won\'t bankrupt me), but I will never buy WD again, I\'ll just wait for the GD booklet every year. I buy all my minis from eBay nowadays anyway. The money that GW did get direct from me (for WD), they have just kissed goodbye to. I hope they\'re happy eith their £6.

And I think you\'re also missing the point like so many! The free booklet they gave out was simply a booklet. It was about 25 pages the other year and a throw away freebie. I assume that this \'over priced\' edition this year will be properly bound and have a reasonably substantial cover, as well as almost double the page count!

You assumption is misguided. Is is an identical format to the previous two (see my first post in this thread, look for the word \"flimsy\").

Hmmm.. it does seem to be just another money-making scheme for something that used to be free. Now if it were along the same lines as the fantasy miniatures book they put out a couple of years ago, that would have been nice. I will no doubt have a perusal of it though and probably buy it if its got good quality pics.

i actually got one of those. the \'89 one. bloody brilliant only paid about a tenner for it. i have to admit that i also pre ordered the new one. sorry guys. i really like those booklets and while i will agree that they are over priced (£4 would be fine if you ask me), i do like looking at pretty photos of nicely painted minis

....go to GenCon in the UK this year. Peter and I went last year and it was the biggest pile of CRAP ever

It was held at Butlins, who charged £6.50 each just to get onto their site - their explanation was \"well you can use the facilities at Butlins...\" our argument \"we don\'t want too! we came for the model show!\"

THEN.... we paid £11 each to get into GenCon - which was f**king bollocks. It was a huge marquee, with about 12 trade stands mainly selling roleplaying items. Only 2 or 3 stands sold miniatures and then Rackham only. The rest of the \'tent\' was given over to board games, CCG\'s and some war gaming.

It took us 20 minutes to walk around the whole place and we then left thoroughly pissed off and £35 out of pocket. I guess they don\'t call it GenCON for nothing

Compared to that GD was a luxury and I know that Salute will be pure heaven on earth.

When was the last time GW actually bound anything properly? It seems every GW book I own can be relied on to drop pages from poor binding. Every codex I own and especially the product catalog suffer from the worst binding on earth. White Dwarf is the only publication that is sustainable since it is saddle stitched instead of perfect bound.

If I want to see nicely painted minis, I usually just look on here. TBH £6.00 doesn\'t sound too expensive to me. I suppose GW, in their current ailing financial situation, have to think of new ways to stay afloat, which as much as they are disliked, has to be good for mini painting/gaming in general.

It\'s a GW trademark...

The bastards even used to print symbols where you should punch holes on the pages of their earlier bound works for when they dropped out....I can post a scan if anyone is in any doubt

We all know that was just so people could wreck their books (and WD) and put everything in ring binders. Only thing that was funny though was when people would cut up their WD\'s for the articles and then 12 months later they\'d all be compiled into a nice shiney book.

I massacred my WD\'s from 90 through 130 for the amazing Eavy Metal articles. They are full of speculative painting tips rather than the GW standard. Excellent Smithers

damn i\'ve been trying to get some of the old ones from a shop at home but i think the earliest ones are from the 150s. back in the day when mike mcvey was showing off his godlike abitlity to create wonderful dioramas... those were the days
