They're the magnolia/beige of the Space Marine world. They don't have anything particularly funky so people are always lured away with models that are more uncommon and interesting.

I know that it would cause endless moans, but I reckon it would be really good if GW approached chapters the same way as the new HH book. So you have a basic SM chapter setup and then you pick a founding primarch and use rule variations to add the flavour/units/rules. It'd make each chapter completely unique and play in a different style. Biggest disadvantage would be you'd need two codex's to play.

Actually no. If they did them as the legions in Betrayal, the legion specific rules and nee units only take up a handfull of pages. You could easily cram in a dozen or more chapters in the basic marine dex if they upped the pagecount a bit.

I have a soft spot for the Ultra Smurfs. My original painting buddy back in the early 90's used to paint them in the brightest most vivid shade of blue possible. Lightning Bolt Blue I believe? They looked great, or as great as a 10 year old could manage...
