OMG!
I've seen student fan flicks done better!
$40!! Seriously?!
The BEST part [Actually VERY GOOD] is the voice over intro!
You can make all the excuses you want, but for the amount of moolah that I shell out for their little plastic men, they could've increased the budget, AND SHOPPED AROUND for someone that could do a decent job at the animation!
Storyline was totally fluffy, but IT LASTED ABOUT AS LONG! as a two page fluff piece in the CODEX!
This is a Saturday morning TV version of a 40k movie!
Absolute SHITE!
I hope they enjoy what little they make off this, because it'll be a cold day in the Bahamas before I buy something other than toys from this company. And considering the massive collection of their stuff I currently own?, Might be that long before I buy more of those too!
ACK!
I can't express my displeasure enough!
I'd like to grab someone responsible and scream it in their face like a drill instructor! Spittle and frothy and all!!

Was it thtat bad! Im going to convince my game club to purchase it. share the cost. Could it be compared to Final Fantasy the spirit within or Final fantasy VII movie? cgi wise?

More like a 90's video game!
CGI was badly rendered.
Doesn't even come CLOSE to Spirits Within.
Sad, paid 2 times the price, for a polished turd of a movie.

I would suggest waiting for a bootleg.
Actually it's probably up on YouTube...let me check.

my opinion is, that the movie was not really crab, honestly it was "not bad". i have expected MUCH more action than the couple of skirmishes. the story was not really that bad, but way too easy.
what i found really strange was the fact that on board of the ship only a dozen of space marines and perhaps three Servitors have been. for the rose, a whole ship to pass through the warp for this small amount?
the group has been formed of sm-novices, if i remember? when the captain died, they immediately conveyed to captains and where allowed to touch the hammer??
the fact, that the captain was possessed, was absolotely no surprise for me. but captains are, like every marine, very resistant against chaos demons. so i thought. and that a space marine is so easy to kill (one shot, he's dead...) was new to me.
AND: the exhausts of the backpacks were to small.

Just watched it on YouTube.

Meh - I would have bought it if they hadn't been so dickish with the price and asked for a more reasonable sum.

CGI - It's not good I would say like an FMV on a playstation 2 - Dawn of war models and textures are much more realistic. Didn't like the movement either their walking seemed very laboured. There did seem to be a lot of pensioners in it as well, I know they are supposed to be battle worn, but these were obviously in their 60's (equivalant)

Voices - Not good, but not as bad as i was expecting. It would have been worse if they all had american accents (no offence to our cousins over the pond), but a Ultramarine Space Marine has to have a british accent - I would expect the imperial guard to be american.

Story - Not bad, very diluted to fit into just over 1 hour, very slow in some areas, and quickly resolved in others. The battle (I say battle, but it wasn't one) with the Chaos Marines was crap, and didn't fufill anything other than to kill some more marines.

Overall - a suitable first attempt. 3/5

it doesn't by any stretch. they were mediocre at very best, poor for most imo. dawn of war gameplay is better

yeah the ship felt totally empty which made the whole grand scale of it look a bit crap

i think of them all as having british accents, being british. ig tend to think of a slightly rougher accents. the tanith i always think of as having a welsh accent as i think he described it it some sort of way that made me think of it

also, they seemed to have stuck with model proportions that look ok (albeit big) in small scale but stooooooooopid in large scale

Watched the youtube version and glad i didnt pay for. Worse than i expected. Dawn of war cutscenes are better. When did all marines become OAP's. I know its handy to get the free bus pass down to sparing room but did they have to all be old.

These people are worlds apart and each chapter has it's own culture. To think they'd all sound British isn't all that realistic. The accents would probably be as varied if not more than all of the accents of present Day Earth.

In my imagination:

Space Marines:
Ultramarines: British
Dark Angels: Maybe a faint Italian.
Black Templar: Germanic
Blood Raven: Scottish

Imperial Guard:
Catachan: American Midwest
Tallarn: Afghanistan or Colonial India
Death Korps: Austrian
Cadian: Cockney

Tau:
Chinese dialects and Southeast Asian by Sept.

And so on and so forth.

its like they gave the films producer (someone obviously without a clue about the subject matter) the executive summary and said go away and knock out a quicky for us. for example they told him the marines are imortal really old without telling him they dont age. duh. didnt know there was a "chelsea pensioners" chapter who was the primarch? methusala.

The helmets looked 'off' to me. Especially the held ones, too plastic compared to the armor.

The faces didn't move right when they were talking, I'm not talking about the lip-sinking but the rest of the face.

Questions are as follows; where was the landspeeder stored on the thunderhawk and how did they get it out? wasn't there a row of marine restraints running down the center of the cargo hold.
where were the backpacks of the marines that were in the restraints.
why was the captain unrestrained in the middle of a drop?
where was the night vision in the marines helmets? All that cool targeting tech in the things and they can't squeeze in a pair of NOGs? Think that I'd have to shoot the medico the way he was flashing that light around. shined it right in the face of a couple of his battle bothers.

Liked. The fact that they had everyone wearing a helmet almost of the time in combat.
disliked the way that they moved untactful. got to bunched up on the move.

all and all, not bad. 40 bucks worth... Ah, no. sorry.

I guess in see Ultras with more Roman/Latin accent when British or American.

Cheers for the youtube links. Was never gonna buy it at the set price sight unseen.

Despite the poor reviews I was hoping for something better. I figured some anti-GW bias might affecting some of the reviewing. Sad to see that ain't the case. I mean, I don't have that bias and the things going for this movie were buried under the weight of all the things wrong with it.

It looks akin to the quality of someone on a course, learning how to use these animation programs. Not a product of a professional company.
There's a lack of variety in texture, everything looks plastic. All shaded with pure black, shading with iffy directions of light.
The marines looked wrong to both real anatomy and the already iffy anatomy the minis have established.
There was no weight to anything. Helmets and bolters appearing with all the weight of something empty made from plastic. Walking marines, the size, power and bulk of them, wasn't evoked in their movement. They silently bimbled along.
Bolters were gesticulated with, despite a marine in power armour being strong the sheer size of the equipment remains in the grip of physics. The banner, it had the ragged edges of cloth but was flat and was only an occasional fluttering at the very tips that stopped me thinking it was made of something solid.
A missed chance to show the bolt shell in action. They had a scene with spent casings being expelled, pannning to a shell in flight. A second extra and could have added it leaving the gun under that small charge before igniting it's own propellent.
With lights, I dunno why a specialist with flamer would feel the need to waste fuel *skoosh*ing the occasional shadow.

The story seemed a poor choice. The troops purportedly on their first outing. One has to assume that's their first outing in power armour, they'd have been scouts for some time before that. The squad seemed more like a Deathwatch Kill-team, going off on a mission like that. Didn't seem very Space Mariney. Not helped by not having any regular humans amongst the mix, the size comparisn would have helped cement the imagery of the marines.
A company captain and apothecary, with one squad. The other nine squads left hanging without them then. Didn't seem right, but could just be situational.

I hope this was a tax write-off. Quality this bad impairs the brand rather than adds a dimension to it. Haven't experienced that since the Star Wars prequels, resulted in me not watching the originals or picking up another SW novel for years.

Nah this isn't wasn't a tax write off.
It was a blatent money rip off out of Mums and Dads wallets.

And lets be honest here did anyone really expect a GW movie to be good?
If so then your optimism level is set 'a little high'.

It "WAS" a bit high. Because I did figure them posting for a decent flick. But I guess I should've looked through my eyes today, instead of the way I keep looking through the eyes I had all those years ago when I saw my first ever space marine figure in the shop. Cynicism re-initiated.

i know budget is a massive limiting factor but if they had the whole thing ata higher quality, ie like the dow intros, they could sell more, not only to us lot but break out into bigger markets, like gamers

I did expect more. I find optimism a more appealing cut. Cynicism settles on the shoulders all too easily, but it's a faded brown cardigan it's not a bad idea to wriggle out of. For a start it looks so 70's. :p

Now it wasn't very good but in what way is this a "GW movie"? IIRC it's basically a fanflick done by a company funded by external means. Did GW actually put in any money in this?
