On the Gw site forums everyone hates Ultramarines because they are common, I agree with that. Now 2/3rds of painted Space marines on CMON are Ultras, very well designed and painted but in the same colours and patterns nevertheless.
Now I ask a question to the great painters and converters who have been posting ultra figures up, \"Couldn\'t you try and sell other chapter minis? Please?\"

I am still envious at the level of painting and conversion on CMON but I think the Ultramarine popularity spoils looking at space marines o this site, anyone else agree?

WOLVES FOR ME !

Since my teens I have loved Vikings & their history , that ran parrallel with a love of Space Marines so when 2-3 years ago I started to look seriously at G.W.S minis I immediately fell in love with SPACE WOLVES, I am even sad enough to have read the novels about Ragnar Blackmane.After the Wolves I like the Salamanders with their flame motiff. VIK in viking is another name of fjord (in norwegian). This is because most vikings were from the areas around the Oslofjord.

Swedish vikings only rampaged in finland and estonia, and denmark didn\'t have vikings, because denmark were much like the germans. So the real vikings were from norwaylol

Well, concerning space marines. I love the dark angels, because of their dark and mysterious nature. After that I like the space wolves, why? Cuz they\'re vikings!

\'tis why I placed, as a bit of fluff background on my homebrewed chapter, that they hate the ultramarines for zealously sticking to the index astartes. just a little personal jab at the ultramarines. Personally, I always liked the Howling Griffons, and the other Badab War 2nd edition chapters, what with their bright colors and wonderful heraldry. I do think that they\'re trying to phase that out, though. There\'s much less of the Blood angels, it seems, and more of the \"darker\" colored chapters, with an intense darkening of the colors that stand as it is.
as for the first founding chapters, my heart goes to the Salamanders. lizard scales, hammers, and fire. nothing beats it.

:) I guess I\'m one of the contributors of posting loads of ultramarines :) The reason why i have posted soooo many is so it gives folk the chance to see a large force. Ultramarine have a love/hate thing about them. What might not be for you might be interesting to someone else. All my ultra stuff was commissioned and to tell you the truth i don\'t like ultramarines either :) Not to worry....I\'m doing a worldeaters force next....no more ultramarines from me :)

Ultramarines are painted so much cause many years ago there was a big sale of blue ultramarine at GW.

Me I like very much the white/red patterned ones.What\'s their name?

Typically, ultramarines are just a beginner army, you should go for an army with special rules. I play novamarines ( second founding chapter ) and they are treated like raven guard, cept i hate those special rules. Ultramarines are good just cuz of marneus :cool:

When I finish with my guard I\'m gonna do some Celtic Space Marines.

White armour with loads of blue drybrushing (they even put Woad on thier power armour lol) and gold Celtic symbols on thier shoulders. Aye? Nay?

i agree that ultra\'s are uncommon and boring, but you can easely make your own variety of them so Imade submarines, also blue (but blue camouflage) and the same rules, but Ireally like them

Well, the 40k history reason is that they were far from the fighting during the Horus heresy, as Horus foresaw them being such a threat, and that is why they weren\'t so decimated as the other chapters and so many of the other founding chapters come from Ultras...

The reason I think so many people PAINT them, is that BECAUSE they adhere so rigidly to the CODEX (not index), the squad markings etc are easier to get right, and whole squads can be painted up the same relatively quickly.

And, to be honest, I like the idea that the ultramarines are among the more accepting chapters, more likely to ally with aliens and less up-themselves as other chapters.

But I agree - it IS nice to see other chapters and colour schemes - I was glad when the ultras got their own speciality troops (Tyranid hunters etc) to make them a bit more individulaistic :)

I think of it this way. THere are many people that can make a great looking miniature, and paint a great looking one too. But sometimes you want to see how your ultramarine would look against someone else\'s. Kinda like proving yourself by climbing MT. Everest. You do it to see how you stack up to others. But hey, with climbing everest it\'s easy to see who the winner is. Anybody who comes back with all their fingers and toes to me is a winner...

the reason ultramarines suck is that they are boring.
all the othe r chapters have something more interesting about them.
People paint ultramarines because blue is easy and looks good and 4 or 5 years ago all the models in everything produced by GW were ultramarines

For me and alot of fulltime painters you paint what the customer wants and if theres 2/3rds of the marines here on Cmon that are ultramarines....well maybe they aren\'t hated as much as folk might think. Though they aren\'t my favoured chapter i still enjoy seeing a well painted ultramarine. *ducks from anti-ultra fire*

They do have unique troops that no other chapter has. Tyrannic War Veterans. :)

Erm....I\'m off to paint a worldeater force....you never know, maybe one day soon we will have a \'Worldeaters Zzzzzz\' thread ;) Blood for the blood god!:twisted:

I can\'t wait to paint some Ultramarines! Sicarius looks amazing, i sure hope I can get some Ultra\'s before I go on vacantion.

Too bad a lot of people don\'t like them, but don\'t let this stop anyone from starting a Ultramarine army. Because they\'re simple to paint that don\'t take the fun out of them.
