ultrasonic brush and model cleaning

Over at the Twenot (Dutch tank model and history association) they are discussing ultrasonic baths to clean brushes, airbrushes and even remove paint of plastic scale models.
Cleaning fluids used are alcohol as well as detergents. It seems to work quite well.

Has anybody here tried this?

I have never tried it, but Micro Mark offers what I think would be ideal for that. I have always thought about it, but the price they ask for it makes it pretty prohibitive to me.

That one would seemingly be a good size.

But at almost 80 dollars...! Plus you\'d most likely need to buy the cleaner it recommends....I can buy ALOT of Pinesol or Simply Green for that.

I tried a small version....

Absolute rubbish....

The \'science\' sounds wonderful but basically, most of them seem to employ a small electric motor with an offset weight on the shaft to create high frequency vibrations in the water bath. As there generally appears to be no abrasives involved one has to wait for the liquid to eventually have an effect. Years I suspect....I certainly wouldn\'t like to hold my breath whilst a plastic mini was stripped

I gave mine to my wife who uses it, very occasionally to clean her jewellery. It works quite well in this respect.

good to know! Maybe for cleaning they work very well....Micro Mark also has a much large one to fit Toy Train Engines....But 250 bucks! I assume they work great for getting oil grime off.

I think they have their place...

If you can\'t use abrasives or strong solvents...
The jewellery thing worked fine because a) you can\'t use strong solvents and b) the dirt is very loose and relatively easy to remove.
