Unbasing question

So, started a Vampire Counts army after they put out the new book and so forth. Got everything cleaned up, assembled and based and realized that they're on the smaller base, not the medium bases so putting hero's into units of grave guard and what not will look funny. Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to weaken the glue bond on the base so I can upgrade the size? I was told by one person to soak the base up to the mini's ankle in hot water for an hour or so and then try to cut the base out from under their feet at the contact point with a hobby knife, but I'm not entirely sure that's a good idea.

Um, in order to run a legal army you'll need to have them all on the 20mm bases (the small ones) rather than the 25mm (medium). Sounds like you don't need to rebase them at all.

Hm, I figured it would be fine since GW upped their bases for their pictures, I suppose I can safely assume they did that for ascetics only then. Alright then, as for the problem with trying to fit a hero into the units, how does that work? Cause with the slightly bigger base, sitting on a tray, it's going to affect the three ranks immediately behind them, thus looking very unkempt and unruly. Should I just field them on the farthest side of the front row to minimize the visual casualty?

I'm confused now. The bases that come with the new VC characters are all 20mm ones. And so are the bases that come with the VC units. Have you put your characters on different sized bases.?

I have no idea about what sizes should be used but hot water should help weaken it. Don;t leave it for an hour though as it will cool too much about 15 mins should suffice. Or you can simply break the base off...

To address Iono first, I bought Vlad and Isabella, they both came with 30mm bases. Maybe they weren't supposed to and that's what's throwing me off, no idea. I used plastic glue to base the mini and no I'm not trying to keep the bases in tact.

As an edit, I haven't based the characters yet, so that's not a lost cause if the bases or wrong or what not.

Kings to you Iono, they are supposed to come with 20s instead of 30s. Well thanks for the responses at any rate everyone, at least I'll know what I'm doing if a legitimate basing issue pops up in the future.
