Hi, could you guys give me some tips on what type of skin I should use on this mini: http://www.newwave.org/minis/rackham/englishconfrontation/images/nmch01_1.jpg

I\'m planning to give him
-NMM

-Red and orange(lavalike, so pretty dark with light points) on the shaft of the sword and the blade of the sword make to look like glowy metal. And maybe a red/orange beard.

- coaly black, as a contrast to the red and orange. (like on the mask)

-and some small green details, like the goblin head on the back, as a contrasting color to the red. (and maybe, just maybe, the eyes)

I\'ve been an ork-painter for all of my painting time now (with minimal exeptions) and I\'ve almost never painted dwarf/human skin.
So it is harder for me to \'experiment\' with skin because I mostly end up making it more gooey looking than I want to.:~(
And I just don\'t want to ruin this mini.
And I want to give him atleast a evil sort of skin.

And if you like, some other tips on painting this mini.
:innocent:

Thing with dead skin is, the outer most skin is rotted and peeling before the innermost skin because it\'s closer to the blood. That pc is one of Rakham\'s first paint jobs for the Mid-Nor dwarves and not the best in my opinion. Look at Akkadhalet his skin has excellent sins of death due to the lividity that makes blood look bluish because of the lack of oxygen. Further decmposition can be done by a bit of green in the skin. But a good all-aroud tip is to use a bit of grey in with a light flesh color to simulate a pale, deathly color.

Just remember that the skin of the Mid-Nor dwarves is many colors because they consantly need to apply it because the old skin goes bad!

Guess where my quote is from.. :p \\/

Thanks for the enlightment on undead skin.

You\'ve said it yourself, Mid-Nor dwarves\' skin comes in many colors...what type of color would be the best then next to the colors I would like to use.

And could you also please explain me how to paint the type of skin you propose to me, as for that I\'m not well eperienced in painting other skins than those of orks.

Certainly, the easiset way to figure out contrasting colors is subtraction. The primaries Blue, Yellow, and Red all make this possible. If you want a complementary color, use the other colors beside that one.
Ex:
Red-ReBlueYellow= Yellow+Blue

Yellow and Blue can be used seperatle to make a tri-complentary or you could simply use Green (Blue+Yellow). Since you\'re leaning towards Orange, a Blue-Green would be good.

To do skin like Akkadhalet, start with the color you wish to use and then make the highlights duller. For Blu-Green, adding a Blue-Grey would be good for a plae look, or even a bit of reddish brown for a more dirty, dingy look.

Like I said before, blood in the skin dries and the outside dries faster. If you go with something like this, pink would be the base and blue would be the highlighting colors and around any scars.

Hope this helps, sorry I can\'t show you any of my dwarves (none are even primed yet) and I most likely won\'t get to em after theis year\'s Golden Daemon awards! :D
