Huge photos, just so you get a good idea of how bad they really are.
The primer seems to have eaten away at the plastic, so I\'m guessing it\'s some kinda reaction with mould release agent but I could be wrong.
It\'s very humid here but I\'m normally careful. Could also be cheap paint that\'s not meant for plastics, but doesn\'t say anything on the can.
I\'d really like to avoid this happening again, so any thoughts would be appreciated. cheers.

Damn, it looks as if you\'ve primed with asphalt! I\'ve never had this happen, so I really can\'t give you any advice other than to not use that primer again. At least not on plastic minis.

Are you sure it\'s the plastic that\'s been eaten, and not just lumpy spray on TOP of the figures?

Cos you MIGHT be able to strip them and respray with a better spray...

the only explenation I can think of if the plastic is eaten is that you sprayed too close to the mini and that whatever gaz is used in the primer ate the plastic, but even that seems weird.
for priming I do short burst never doing a burst twice at the same spot so the primer as time to dry before another burst is applied. And general adivce is not to cover the mini with the primer, just have enough to insure that the paint stays on the mini.

Did you use car primer? That eats away at plastic.

Or you could have sprayed to close. IIRC the spray heats up as it touchs a surface which causes it to bond then it cools down. If you have to thick a coat it won\'t be able to cool down efficently causing it to melt the plastic?

@swordwind, why must it be GW chaos black primer? GW\'s black is the best black primer iv ever used, get super smooth results most of the time.

Gutted for you hubba, its not a cheap hobby to get into so when things like this happen it is really annoying.

I am fairly certain I have got rid of my eldar, but if I come across any in my bits box you are more than welcome to them mate.

I am on the same wavelength as matty, GW black primer is the best I have came across, and I personally have never had any problems with it (exept when they put the price up to £6, I was on a one man mission at my local gw manager that day- as if it was personally his fault!)

Well, Thanks for the feedback so far.
In summary, The paint I was using was some cheap hobby paint, from the \'todo cien\', (which is like the pound shop or bargin bin depending which part of the world you\'re in, so I guess one lesson to be learned is that you shouldn\'t skimp on your materials, although I\'ve used it on other metal minis with no problem.
I spray from a good 12 cm in to a spray booth (box) althought I may be guilty of doing too many passes without letting it dry.
@Ritual and HakoMike: Roughcoat/ Asphalt
lol, problem seemed to deveolop within a minute of spraying so not instantaneous.
@Swordwind: no not GW, I usually use vallejo, but to be honest, I don\'t think there\'s much difference what brand you use, if the conditions are wrong, you\'re screwed, I guess a good idea is to test first with sprue.
@At Dan, yeah, deffinatley eaten in to the plastic, I haven\'t tried stripping them but I did remove some of the texture with a file, and there\'s no doubt as to the damage.
@Thunderhawker, as said, I\'ve not bothered cleaning them up as the plastics been eaten. how does storing the can upside down effect performance?
@ Frenhkid & Matty, I reckon that\'s probably what\'s happened, especially as the problem seems to be on just one facet/side of each mini, probably where wet coats overlapped, it\'s annoying \'cause I need them black and hate base coating, so maybe I\'m a little over enthusiastic getting a good overall coverage . I basically spray and then rotate the minis 30º or so and spray again from another angle, perhaps I need more patience.
@Orky Dave. Thanks, you\'re a good man, but I still have another box of guardians untouched so not to worry. Cheers all the same.
In the end I\'ve just painted them up anyway, they don\'t look too bad unless you inspect closely, and they are only grunts after all.
Rgds all.

Maybe you can give them Anti-tyranid bases and explain the texture (Quite accurately!) as Acid damage? lol

Read any \"spray problems! plz help!\" here or on any miniature painting message board and 90% of the problems are from GW Chaos Black spray. This is one of the 10% that isnt ;)

Really? Been using car primer on all of mine. Haven\'t had any pitting yet.

Not sure if all will, but there is a chemical in one type which does. Though I cannot remember the name.

On occassion, some of the pigment particles can set up in the line and or/around the lid (if stored upside down). what happens when you right the can is that the medium splashes to the bottom, leaving this nasty residue at the top... blah blah blah.. anyway, you get chunky specks, but it wouldn\'t cause that consistent an erosion. So in closing, ignore me:D
